Universitetsforlaget AS (English: "The University Press"), also known in English as Scandinavian University Press, is a Norwegian academic publishing company, which publishes non-fiction literature and journals mainly oriented to Scandinavia. Universitetsforlaget is the largest academic press in Scandinavia, and is a wholly owned independently operated subsidiary of Aschehoug, founded in 1872. Universitetsforlaget was originally the name of an independent publishing company founded by Tønnes Andenæs in 1950, that later merged with other publishing companies to become a subsidiary of Aschehoug in 2000. History The publishing house in its current form was established in 2000, and has two different origins: One is Universitetsforlaget, founded by Tønnes Andenæs in 1950. The second origin is the publishing house Tanum-Norli, which is itself the result of the merger of two publishing companies founded in 1890 and 1933, respectively. H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard), commonly known as Aschehoug,() is one of the largest independent publishing companies in Norway, founded in 1872. Headquartered in Oslo, the publishing house has 480 employees. The Aschehoug group also comprises other publishing houses owned partially or wholly by Aschehoug. Aschehoug can be directly translated to "ash hill." History Aschehoug was founded as a bookstore in 1872 on Egertorvet in Oslo by cousins, Hieronymus and Halvard Aschehoug. From the start the firm was involved in publishing in a modest way, its output consisting mainly of school books. In 1888, the company was taken over by William Martin Nygaard and Thorstein Lambrechts (1856-1933), who kept the name while expanding its operations. An academy (Attic Greek: Ἀκαδήμεια; Koine Greek Ἀκαδημία) is an institution of secondary or tertiary higher learning (and generally also research or honorary membership). Margunn Bjørnholt
Margunn Bjørnholt (born 9 October 1958 in Bø, Telemark) is a Norwegian sociologist and economist. She is a research professor at the Norwegian Centre for Violence and Traumatic Stress Studies (NKVTS) and a professor of sociology at the University of Bergen. Her research focuses on gender-based violence, migrants and refugees, gender equality, men and masculinities, policy studies, and several other topics. Hendrik Storstein Spilker (born 1965) is a Norwegian sociologist and media studies scholar. He is a professor of media and technology at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Career He earned his cand.polit. degree at NTNU in 1998 and his doctoral degree in sociology at the same institution in 2005, with a dissertation on the development of commercial Internet services in Norway from 1997. Jon Marius Sæland Haarberg (born 1953) is a Norwegian literary scholar, and professor of literature at the University of Oslo.
