Universitario
Club Universitario de Deportes, popularly known as Universitario or simply as La "U", is a Peruvian football club located in Lima. The club was founded in 1924 under the name Federación Universitaria by students of the National University of San Marcos but was forced to rename in 1931. Since 1928, the club competes in the top tier of Peruvian football, the Torneo Descentralizado. In 2000, they opened the 85,000-capacity stadium Estadio Monumental, currently the largest stadium in Peru and 5th largest in South America, retiring their smaller Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández. Universitario and Alianza Lima participate in the Peruvian Clásico, which has its roots in the club's first participation in the Primera División in 1928. Peruvian Clásico
The Peruvian Clásico (''El Clásico Peruano'') or the Classic of the Classics of Peruvian Football (''El Clásico de los Clásicos del Futbol Peruano'') is the name given to Peru's biggest football (soccer), football local derby, derby between Alianza Lima and Club Universitario de Deportes, Universitario. The rivalry between these two clubs started in their first game on 23 September 1928 when the two first faced off in a violent game. Both clubs come from the capital city, Lima. The rivalry has given rise to an intense conflict between the working class and upper class of Lima, as the city went through a series of changes in the late-1920s, including public works and better education. The Peru First Division (; ''First Division'') —known as Liga 1 Betsson for sponsorship reasons and officially as Liga 1 — is the top flight of association football in Peru. It has been referred to as Torneo Descentralizado since 1966, when the first teams residing outside the Lima and Callao provinces were invited to compete in the inaugural league national competition. The main sponsor is the Spanish telecommunications brand Movistar. There are 20 teams in the division of a league that operates on a system of promotion and relegation determined at the end of the season with the Segunda División and the Copa Perú. Alianza Lima
Club Alianza Lima, popularly known as Alianza Lima or simply Alianza, is a Peruvian professional sports club based in La Victoria District of Lima, Peru. It is widely known for having one of the most historical and successful football teams in Peru; they have won a total of twenty-five league titles of the Peruvian Primera División and are currently the oldest team playing in that competition, since the club was founded in 1901. Alianza's home stadium is the Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, named after Alejandro Villanueva, one of the most important players in the club's history. 2021 Liga 1 (Peru)
The 2021 Liga 1 de Fútbol Profesional (known as the Liga 1 Betsson 2021 for sponsorship reasons) was the 105th season of the Peruvian Primera División, the highest division of Peruvian football. A total of 18 teams competed in the season, with Sporting Cristal coming in as defending champions. The season was originally scheduled to start on 26 February 2021, while the draw, which was originally scheduled to take place on 5 February 2021, was postponed due to the effects of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Peru. Because of this, the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) also postponed the start of the tournament, with 12 March 2021 as the new date. Alianza Lima were the champions, winning their twenty-fourth league title by defeating Sporting Cristal in the finals by a 1–0 aggregate score. Carlos Horacio Compagnucci (born 6 August 1968) is an Argentine football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. Playing career Born in Monte Buey, Córdoba Province, Compagnucci began his career at Vélez Sarsfield in 1989. Later in the year, he moved on loan to Deportivo Morón, and helped the side to win the 1989–90 Primera B Metropolitana. Back to Vélez in 1991, Compagnucci started to feature more regularly in the main squad after the arrival of manager Carlos Bianchi, as a replacement for Marcelo Gómez. Club Sporting Cristal S.A. is a Peruvian sports club located in the city of Lima, best known for its association football, football team. It was founded on 13 December 1955 in the RÃmac District, RÃmac district by engineer Richard BentÃn Mujica and his wife Esther Grande de BentÃn, stockholders of the Peruvian brewery Backus and Johnston. The club and the brewery have been closely linked since its inception, and it is for this reason that it is popularly known as ''los Cerveceros'' ("the brewers"). Jean Franco Ferrari Chiabra (born 29 July 1975) is a retired Peruvian footballer who played as a midfielder. He last played for León de Huánuco in the Torneo Descentralizado. Club career Jean Ferrari began his senior career playing for Deportivo San AgustÃn in the 1995 Torneo Descentralizado season. He then played for Universitario from 1996 to 1998, making 17 appearances in the 1997 season. Ferrari then had a spell with La liga side CF Extremadura in the 1998–99 season. Estadio Monumental "U"
The Estadio Monumental (''Monumental Stadium'') is a football stadium in the district of Ate in Lima, Peru. It is the home of Club Universitario de Deportes, and it was opened in 2000 to replace the Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernandez. Its only legal owner is the club itself. Designed by Progreso International and Gremco S.A., Uruguayan architect Walter Lavalleja Sarriés led the construction of the stadium. At the time of its construction, it became Peru's largest stadium and also the 5th largest in South America. Since its expansion to 80,000 capacity in early 2020s, it has become the largest stadium by seating capacity on the continent. Plácido Reynaldo Galindo Pando''(9 March 1906 – 22 October 1988) was a Peruvian football midfielder who played for Peru in the 1930 FIFA World Cup, where he also became the first ever player sent off in a World Cup match. He also was a player, manager and president of Universitario de Deportes. Universitario de Deportes Plácido Galindo played for Universitario de Deportes from 1924 to 1933. As part of a group of students of the University of San Marcos he founded the then called Federación Universitaria de Fútbol in 1924. The club played friendly matches until it was admitted in the first Peruvian Primera División tournament in 1928, in which it ended as runner up. Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández
Estadio Teodoro Lolo Fernández is a stadium in Lima, Peru, built in the 1950s and opened on July 20, 1952. It is owned by GREMCO S.A. formerly was owned by the football club Universitario de Deportes, being their first stadium; one stand in the west for 4,000 spectators brought from the Estadio Nacional. The inauguration game saw Universitario play Universidad de Chile where they won 4-2; Lolo Fernández scored three goals. Universitario then bought a stand from the Peruvian Basketball Federation which served as the northern stand; capacity of 5,000 spectators. They finally built the eastern stand for a capacity of 6,000 spectators. This reached a maximum capacity of 15,000. However the Estadio Lolo Fernández was not used for more important games. Copa Libertadores
The CONMEBOL Libertadores, also known as the Copa Libertadores de América ( pt, Copa Libertadores da América), is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960. It is the highest level of competition in South American club football. The tournament is named after the ''Libertadores'' (Spanish and Portuguese for ''liberators''), the leaders of the Latin American wars of independence, so a literal translation of its former name into English is "''America's Liberators Cup''".
