United Women's Sports
United Women's Sports LLC (UWS) is an American professional sports company based in Providence, Rhode Island. Operating women's professional sports leagues as a financially sustainable sports entertainment product, UWS works toward raising awareness of women in sport. The business model for UWS is based on the objective of Play It Forward Sports, which was founded in 2015, aiming to create female leaders through sport. Such goals include providing opportunities for women to work in sports, including disciplines such as Marketing, On-Air, Production, Operations and Finance. Operating expenses for UWS includes administration, player salaries, facilities, game operations, travel/lodging and insurance, among others. Properties Founded by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby in 2016, the first venture of UWS involved lacrosse, with the launch of UWLX, its inaugural game took place on May 28, 2016. Digit Murphy
Margaret Pearl "Digit" Murphy (née Degidio; born December 7, 1961) is an American ice hockey coach, administrator, and former college ice hockey player. She is president of the Toronto Six of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). Murphy has served as head coach of the Boston Blades, with whom she won two Clarkson Cups, and Kunlun Red Star WIH in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). She served as both head coach and president of the Toronto Six in the NWHL during the team’s inaugural season. Prior to joining the Blades, she was the head coach of the Brown Bears women's ice hockey program. She became the winningest coach in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey history during her 18th season at Brown (2006–07). She finished her NCAA coaching career with 318 wins. Aronda Kirby
Aronda Kirby was appointed as the general manager of the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League in May 2013. Along with former Blades head coach Digit Murphy, the two are co-founders of United Women's Sports. Sporting career Kirby served in the capacity of director with the RI IXpress hockey program, which she also helped co-found. The program was the first girls' Tier 1 hockey program in the state of Rhode Island. Boston Blades Joining the Blades organization in the autumn of 2012, Kirby began in team operations. Serving as general manager of the Boston Blades during the 2014–15 CWHL season, the Blades compiled a won-loss record of 17-6-1. UWLX
The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) was a women's lacrosse league in the United States. It was co-founded in Boston, Massachusetts, by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby of the Play It Forward Sports Foundation, under the ownership of United Women's Sports LLC in a strategic partnership with STX. Penn State women's lacrosse alum and former United States national team player Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the league’s first commissioner. DeJuliis left after the 2016 season to found the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL); Kristan Ash served as the second and final league commissioner. The league comprised four teams: the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force. Molly Patricia Schaus (born July 29, 1988) is an American retired ice hockey goaltender and coach. As a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team, she was a two-time Olympic medalist and five-time World Championship medalist. She was drafted 2nd overall by the Boston Blades in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Early life Schaus was born in Voorhees, New Jersey and shortly after moved to the Minneapolis, Minnesota.
