United States At The 2015 Pan American Games
The United States competed at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada, from July 10 to 26, 2015. On July 6, 2015, the United States Olympic Committee announced the full squad of 623 athletes (331 men and 302 women) that will compete in 34 sports. The United States will not compete in both handball and football (soccer). Sport shooter Kim Rhode was named the flagbearer of the team during the opening ceremony, after being selected by her teammates. Medalists The following U.S. competitors won medals at the games. Judo competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 11 to 14 at the Hershey Centre (Mississauga Sports Centre) in Mississauga. Due to naming rights the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of fourteen judo events were held: seven each for men and women. Megan Stephanie Skaggs (born May 7, 1999 in Atlanta) is an American artistic gymnast. She was added to the US national gymnastics team in 2015, and she made her international debut at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy finished eighth in the all-around. She competed at the 2015 Pan American Games and won a gold medal with the team. She won a silver medal on beam behind Canadian Ellie Black. On March 31, 2016, she retired from elite gymnastics. Emily Jane Schild (born August 19, 1998, in Fort Wayne, Indiana) is an American artistic gymnast. She has been a member of the U.S. National team since 2015 and made her international debut at the 2015 City of Jesolo Trophy. At the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto, she was part of the gold-winning US team. Personal life Emily Jane Schild was born on August 19, 1998, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, parents David and Maria Schild. The family moved to North Carolina when Schild was around 5 years old. A member of the National Honor Society, Schild was homeschooled through the NCVP and graduated high school in 2017. Schild is a senior at the University of Georgia and is signed to their gymnastics program. Amelia Magdalena Hundley (born January 21, 1998) is a former American artistic gymnast. She won a gold, silver, and bronze medal at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She also won team gold medals competing for the United States at the 2012 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships and the City of Jesolo Trophy. Hundley ended her elite gymnastics career at the 2016 Olympic gymnastics Trials in San Jose, California. She now attends the University of Florida on a full athletic scholarship and will compete for the Florida Gators gymnastics team in the NCAA. Rachel Kathryn Gowey (born October 3, 1997) is a former American artistic gymnast. She was a U.S. National Team member, from 2014 until her retirement from elite gymnastics in 2016, following her performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Gowey was a member of the gold-winning U.S. team at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto. There, she also won a gold medal individually on the uneven bars. During her elite career, she was coached by Liang Chow, coach of 2008 Olympic balance beam champion Shawn Johnson and 2012 Olympic individual all-around champion Gabby Douglas. Equestrian At The 2015 Pan American Games – Team Dressage
The team dressage competition of the equestrian events at the 2015 Pan American Games took place July 11–12 at the Caledon Equestrian Park. The first round of the team dressage competition was the FEI Prix St. Georges Test. The Prix St. Georges Test consists of a battery of required movements that each rider and horse pair performs. Five judges evaluate the pair, giving marks between 0 and 10 for each element. The judges' scores are averaged to give a final score for the pair. The top 9 team competitors in that round advanced to the final round. This second round consisted of an Intermediare I Test, which is a higher degree of difficulty. The 9 best teams in the Intermediare I Test advance to the final round. That round consists of, the Intermediare I Freestyle Test, competitors design their own choreography set to music. Equestrian competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 11 to 25 at the Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave. The cross-country portion of eventing took place at nearby Will O' Wind Farm (Pan Am Cross-Country Centre), which is located in Mono. Due to naming rights the venue was known as the latter for the duration of the games. The competition was split into three disciplines, dressage, eventing and show jumping. Each discipline awarded a team and individual set of medals. The top team not already qualified in the dressage and eventing team events qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, along with the top two placed teams (not already qualified) in the show jumping competition.
