United States Women's Curling Championship
The United States Women's Curling Championship is the annual women's national curling championship for the United States. It is run by the United States Curling Association (USCA) and typically held in conjunction with the Men's Curling Championship. The champions are eligible to represent the United States at the World Women's Curling Championships if they also rank in the top 75 teams over the last two seasons in the World Curling Tour Order of Merit or have earned 40 points in the Order of Merit year-to-date rankings. History The 2021 Championship was originally planned to be held February 6–13 at the ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and it would have been the first time the Women's National Championship was held in Iowa. But in August, 2020 the arena was damaged during a severe derecho storm. Amy Wright ( Hatten, born January 28, 1964) is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. Curling career Wright made her United States Nationals debut in 1984 and competed on the winning team. Since 1984 she has competed in sixteen more US Nationals, with her last appearance in 2010. In addition to her team's victory in 1984, Wright has also been victorious in 1992 and 2000. She has been a runner-up once and won the Bronze medal at the 2009 Nationals, which doubled as the Olympic Trials for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Betty Kozai
Betty Kozai (October 12, 1928 – January 18, 2021) was an American curler from Seattle, Washington. Curling career Kozai won the US national championship in 1980, on a team skipped by her daughter Sharon. That team went on to finish in fourth place at that year's world championship. She returned to international competition at the age of 81, representing the United States at the 2010 World Senior Curling Championships. Personal life Kozai was a founding member of Granite Curling Club in Seattle, and curled there until the last years of her life. Her three daughters and four grandchildren have also been long-time curlers at Granite. Sharon Vukich is an American curler from Seattle, Washington. She is a two-time women's national Champion, two-time senior women's national champion, and one-time mixed doubles national champion. Curling career Vukich skipped her team to gold at the United States Championship twice, in 1980 and 1987. As champion she represented the United States at the World Championships those years, finishing in fourth and fifth place, respectively. A single-elimination, knockout, or sudden death tournament is a type of elimination tournament where the loser of each match-up is immediately eliminated from the tournament.
