The 2018 United States Senate election in New York took place on November 6, 2018. Incumbent U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was re-elected to a second full term, defeating Republican Chele Chiavacci Farley. As of 2021, this, along with the concurrent comptroller election is the last time Ontario, Seneca, Cayuga, Oneida, Warren, Washington, Otsego, Saint Lawrence and Sullivan counties have voted Democratic in a statewide election. Kirsten Elizabeth Gillibrand (; ; born December 9, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the junior United States senator from New York since 2009. A member of the Democratic Party, she served as member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. Born and raised in upstate New York, Gillibrand graduated from Dartmouth College and from the UCLA School of Law.
