USA Basketball (USAB) is a non-profit organization and the governing body for basketball in the United States. The organization represents the United States in FIBA and the men's and women's national basketball teams in the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Its chairman of the board is retired General Martin Dempsey and its CEO is Jim Tooley. The organization was founded in 1974 as the Amateur Basketball Association of the United States of America (ABAUSA). It was renamed USA Basketball on October 12, 1989, after FIBA modified its rules to allow NBA basketball players to compete in international competitions (professionals from Europe and South America were always allowed to compete). 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship
The 2017 FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup (Arabic: 2017 كأس العالم لكرة السلة تحت 19 سنة فيبا) was the 13th edition of the FIBA Under-19 Basketball World Cup, the biennial international men's youth basketball championship contested by the U19 national teams of the member associations of FIBA. It was held in Cairo, Egypt from 1 to 9 July 2017. Canada won the gold medal by defeating Italy in the final match 79–60. This marked Canada's best ever international FIBA tournament finish in any event. Venue Qualified teams * Brazil qualified for the tournament but was suspended by FIBA. A fourth team from FIBA Americas had to be named to take Brazil's place. The draw took place on 12 May 2017, where Argentina was chosen to replace Brazil. 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship
The 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship for Men was an international basketball competition that was held in Valdivia, Chile from July 19–23, 2016. It was the tenth edition of the championship, and was the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament for the 2017 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. Eight national teams from across the Americas, composed of men aged 19 and under, competed in the tournament. The United States men's national under-19 basketball team, United States won their fourth consecutive gold medal, and eighth overall, in this event by beating Canada national under-19 basketball team, Canada in the final, 99–84.
