United States Ambassador To Lithuania
This is a list of ambassadors of the United States to Lithuania. The United States first established diplomatic relations with the Baltic states (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia) in 1922. One ambassador, resident in Riga, Latvia, was appointed to all three nations. Relations with the three nations were broken after the Soviet invasion of the republics in 1940 at the beginning of World War II. The United States never recognized the legitimacy of the Soviet occupation of the Baltic states, nor the legitimacy of the governments of those states under Soviet occupation. Hence, diplomatic relations were not resumed until 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. The U.S. Embassy in Lithuania is located in Vilnius. Arthur Bliss Lane
Arthur Bliss Lane (16 June 1894 – 12 August 1956) was a United States diplomat who served in Latin America and Europe. During his diplomatic career he dealt with the rise of a dictatorship in Nicaragua in the 1930s, World War II and its aftermath in Europe, and the rise of the Soviet-installed communist regime in Poland. Biography Lane was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York on June 16, 1894, and attended Yale University. After graduating in 1916, he became private secretary to the U.S. Ambassador to Italy in Rome. In 1919-1920 he was 2nd secretary in the U.S. embassy to Poland. In 1921-1922, he was 2nd secretary in London. During this time he was secretary to the U.S. delegation to the 1921 Conference of Ambassadors in Paris. He then went to Berne, Switzerland in 1922. Lithuania (; lt, Lietuva ), officially the Republic of Lithuania ( lt, Lietuvos Respublika, links=no ), is a country in the Baltic region of Europe. Anne Hall is an American diplomat and former Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania. Early life and education Hall grew up in Orono, Maine, graduating from Orono High School in 1977. She stayed in her hometown to attend the University of Maine where she graduated from in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts in international relations. She later attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Public Affairs (M.P.A.) in 1987 while studying in a joint program at the LBJ School of Public Affairs and Institute of Latin American Studies. Deborah A. McCarthy is an American diplomat and a former Ambassador of the United States of America to Lithuania. Early life and education McCarthy spent much of her youth in France and Argentina, where her father served in U.S. missions. McCarthy earned a Bachelor’s in Economics at the University of Virginia in 1976. She attended Georgetown University, where she received both an M.A. in Economics and an M.S. in Foreign Service. John Albert Cloud (born 1953) is a professor in the National Security Affairs Department of the U.S. Naval War College and former ambassador for the United States of America to the Republic of Lithuania. Darryl Norman Johnson (1938 – 24 June 2018) was an American politician and career Foreign Service Officer who held many positions in American government around the world. Most recently and importantly he was the United States Ambassador to Thailand from 2001–2004. Additionally, he was acting US Ambassador to the Philippines for several months in 2005.
