United States Ambassador To Belarus
The United States ambassador to Belarus is the official representative of the president of the United States to the head of state of Belarus. Until 1991 the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic had been a constituent SSR of the Soviet Union. Upon the breakup of the USSR, the Supreme Soviet of Belarus declared itself independent of the Soviet Union on August 25, 1991, and renamed itself the Republic of Belarus on September 19, 1991. The United States recognized Belarus December 26, 1991. An embassy was established in the capital, Minsk, on January 31, 1992, with John Ford as ''Chargé d’Affaires ad interim''. Relations between the United States and Belarus have been continuous since that time. The U.S. Embassy in Belarus is located in Minsk. Since March 12, 2008, when Ambassador Karen Stewart was formally recalled for consultations, there has been no accredited U.S. Ambassador in Minsk. Kenneth Spencer Yalowitz
Kenneth Spencer Yalowitz (born May 28, 1941) is an American retired diplomat. A Foreign Service Officer, he twice served as a U.S. Ambassador and is a Wilson Center Global Fellow. Early life and education Yalowitz was born on May 28, 1941. He graduated from Columbia University with a M.Phil and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. Career During Yalowitz’s 36 year career with the Foreign Service, Yalowitz served as Ambassador to Belarus from 1994-1997 and Georgia from 1998-2001. Jeffrey Glen Giauque is an American diplomat. Biography Giauque was born in Utah and went to Olympus High. He attained a Bachelors of Arts in history and French from the University of Utah and received an Master of Arts and PhD from Ohio State University in European international history and the history of American foreign relations. He wrote his doctoral dissertation on the European Economic Community in 1999. Giauque taught international relations and European history at Miami University (of Ohio). Following September 11th attacks, Giauque would take a job in the United States' embassy in Croatia, ultimately working as vice consul.
