United Nations Security Council Resolution 233, adopted on June 6, 1967, after an oral report by the Secretary-General regarding the outbreak of fighting and the situation in the Near East, the Council called upon the governments concerned to take all measures for an immediate cessation of all military activities in the area and requested that the Secretary-General keep the Council promptly and currently informed on the situation. The resolution was adopted unanimously without debate. United Nations Security Council Resolution
A United Nations Security Council resolution is a United Nations resolution adopted by the fifteen members of the Security Council (UNSC); the United Nations (UN) body charged with "primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security". The UN Charter specifies (in Article 27) that a draft resolution on non-procedural matters is adopted if nine or more of the fifteen Council members vote for the resolution, and if it is not vetoed by any of the five permanent members. Draft resolutions on "procedural matters" can be adopted on the basis of an affirmative vote by any nine Council members. The secretary-general of the United Nations (UNSG or SG) is the chief administrative officer of the United Nations and head of the United Nations Secretariat, one of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
