United Arab Republic Cup
The United Arab Republic Cup was held only once in 1961 due to the fall of the United Arab Republic, the union of Egypt and Syria and it was played between clubs from the two countries. Format The competition included 4 teams the winners and the runners-up of the Egypt Cup and the Syrian Cup. The Egypt Cup Winner takes on the Syrian Cup Runner-up in Cairo, while the Syrian Cup Winner takes on the Egypt Cup Runner-up in Damascus. Mohamed Abdel-Latif "Mimi" El-Sherbini ( ar, ميمي محمد عبد اللطيف الشربيني) (born 26 July 1938) is an Egyptian former footballer who played as a defender for Al-Ahly and the Egyptian national team. He took part in the 1959 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring in Egypt's 4–0 victory against Ethiopia, and went on to win the tournament with the team. Saleh Selim
Saleh Selim ( ar, صالح سليم) (11 September 1930 - 6 May 2002) was the 10th president of the Egyptian Al Ahly Sporting Club. He also was a famous Egyptian football player and actor. He was nicknamed El Maestro because of his way of leading the Al Ahly football team to many victories. He then became the manager of the team, then member of the board of directors of the club. El Qanah Football Club ( ar, نادي القناة لكرة القدم), also known as Suez Canal, is an Egyptian football club based in Ismailia, Egypt. The club is currently playing in the Egyptian Second Division, the second-highest league in the Egyptian football league system. Syrian Cup
The Syrian Cup ( ar, سوريا) is Syria's premier knockout Cup tournament in men's football. It was first contested in 1959. Al-Ittihad SC has won the competition on 10 occasions. The final was first played in the 1960-61 season during the UAR era and won by Al-Majd SC. The tournament has been held annually since then except for the 1963, 1972, 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977 seasons. Al-Majd Sports Club ( ar, نادي المجد الرياضي) is a Syrian football club based in Damascus, Syria. The club is insignificant compared to the city rival Al-Wahda, but more popular than the other rival Al-Jaish. History The club was founded in 1932 under the name of Damascus Al-Ahly Club, and is one of the oldest football clubs in Damascus and the whole country.
