The United Arab Emirates women's national ice hockey team ( ar, فريق هوكي الجليد الإماراتي للسيدات) is the women's national ice hockey team in United Arab Emirates. History In February 2018, the team embarked on an International trip to the United States. Their journey began in Washington DC where the team met the Washington Capitals. Their second stop was Chicago, IL. In Chicago the team watched two Blackhawks games, toured the locker rooms, and performed charity work for the community by training the youth players. Fatma Mustapha suffered an injury to the head due to a puck being shot, she did not require stitches and recovered quite fast. From Chicago, they visited Ontario. Upon arrival in Ontario the team had dinner with the UAE Ambassador to Canada. October- November, 2018. The team travelled to Bangkok to participate in the Land of Smiles Tournament. The 2014 IIHF Women's Challenge Cup of Asia Division I was an international women's ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The tournament took place between 26 December and 28 December 2013 in Hong Kong, China and was the first edition of the Women's Division I competition under the IIHF Challenge Cup of Asia series of tournaments. Hong Kong won the tournament after winning all three of their games and finishing first in the standings. Thailand finished in second place and Singapore finished third. Ice hockey is a minor sport that is gaining popularity in United Arab Emirates. The premier ice hockey league in the UAE is the Emirates Ice Hockey League (EHL), which began in 2009. The U.A.E. Ice Hockey Association is one of the few sports associations recognized by the United Arab Emirates government. In 2018, Vladimir Burdun was appointed as the new president of the EHL. His role was to strengthen the UAE ice hockey team and attract more business opportunities. In 2019, Burdun announced the goal of entering a team into the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), which formerly involved teams from Belarus, China, Finland, Latvia, Kazakhstan, and Russia, by 2021.
