Uniplaces is an online marketplace for booking student accommodation. Based in Lisbon, the platform was founded in 2012 by Miguel Amaro, Mariano Kostelec and Ben Grech. As of October 2015, students from over 140 countries have booked with Uniplaces for a total of more than 500,000 nights. Etymology The platform’s name is derived from “university” and “places”, abbreviated to “Uniplaces”. Alex Chesterman
Alexander Edward Chesterman (born 9 January 1970) is a British internet entrepreneur, co-founder of ScreenSelect, which would later become part of online film distributor LoveFilm, and is the founder and CEO of online used car platform Cazoo. In December 2018 Chesterman raised over £30m in pre-seed funding and then went on to raise a further round of £50m pre launch for Cazoo. He launched the business in December 2019. In March 2020 he then went on to raise a further £100m for Cazoo. He is also the founder of the property website Zoopla in 2007. Wimdu, powered by HomeToGo, is an online marketplace for booking lodging, accessible by website and mobile app for iOS and Android. The company does not own any lodging; it is merely a broker and receives commissions from every booking. It is set up as a " clone" of similar websites.
