Union railway station is a Commuter rail, commuter railway station on the Belgrave line, Belgrave and Lilydale line, Lilydale lines, serving the eastern Melbourne suburb of Mont Albert, Victoria, Mont Albert, Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. Union is a Premium station, premium status below ground station featuring three platforms, two on an island platform and one side platform. It opened on 22 May 2023 after the closure of Mont Albert railway station, Mont Albert and stations. It was built as part of the Level Crossing Removal Project. In December 2020, it was announced that Mont Albert and Surrey Hills stations (approximately apart) would be closed, and replaced with a station in between them. This was due to the fact that level crossing removal works on Union Road and Mont Albert Road required a rebuild of the stations, which would have violated rail safety standards as they were located on curved tracks. Public Transport Victoria (PTV) is the brand name for public transport in the Australian state of Victoria, Australia, Victoria. It was the trading name of the Go Public Transport Development Authority (PTDA), a now-defunct statutory authority in Victoria, responsible for providing, coordinating, and promoting public transport. The PTV began operating on 2 April 2012, taking over many of the responsibilities previously exercised by the Director of Public Transport and the Department of Transport (Victoria, 2008–13), Department of Transport. Belgrave Line
The Belgrave line is a commuter railway line in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Operated by Metro Trains Melbourne, it is the city's fourth-longest metropolitan railway line at . The line runs from Flinders Street station in central Melbourne to Belgrave station in the east, serving 31 stations via Burnley, Box Hill, Ringwood, and Upper Ferntree Gully. Beyond Belgrave, the narrow-gauge line has been restored as the Puffing Billy Railway, which runs tourist services to the original terminus of Gembrook. The line operates for approximately 19 hours a day (from approximately 5:00 am to around 12:00 am) with 24 hour service available on Friday and Saturday nights. During peak hours, headways of up to 15 minutes are operated, with services every 20–30 minutes during off-peak hours.
