Union Of Roma In Macedonia
The Union of Roma in Macedonia ( mk, Сојуз на Ромите од Македонија, ''Sojuz na Romite na Makedonija'') is a political party in North Macedonia supporting the rights of the Romani people in the Republic of Macedonia, Romani people in the country. At the 2006 Macedonian parliamentary election, 2006 legislative elections, the party won 1 out of 120 seats as part of coalition led by the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization–Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity, VMRO-DPMNE. In 2017, after many years of participation in the coalitions led by VMRO-DPMNE, the party leader, Amdi Bajram stated that the party will no longer participate in the coalition. The party will participate in a coalition with Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, SDSM-Besa Movement, Besa for the 2020 North Macedonian parliamentary election, 2020 parliamentary elections. Romani People In The Republic Of Macedonia
According to the last census from 2002, there were 53,879 people counted as Romani, the majority are Muslim Romani people in what is now North Macedonia, or 2.66% of the population. Another 3,843 people have been counted as " Egyptians" (0.2%). One of the majority group are the Arlije, and Gurbeti. Other sources claim the number to be between 80,000 and 260 000 Roma in North Macedonia or approximately 4 to 12% of the total population. The municipality of Šuto Orizari is the only municipality in the world with a Muslim Romani people majority and the only municipality where Balkan Romani is an official language alongside Macedonian.
