Union Charter Township is a charter township of Isabella County, Michigan, Isabella County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 7,615 at the United States Census, 2000, 2000 census and increased to 12,927 at the 2010 United States census, 2010 census. The city of Mount Pleasant, Michigan, Mount Pleasant is entirely surrounded by the township on incorporated land that was formerly part of the township, but the two are administratively separately. Mount Pleasant is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. Located in Central Michigan, the city is the county seat of Isabella County. The population was 21,688 as of the 2020 United States census. It is surrounded by Union Township but is politically independent. Part of the city (with a population of 8,741) is located within the Isabella Indian Reservation, the base of the federally recognized Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Nation.
