Union Bank F.C.
Union Bank FC was a Nigerian association football club based in Lagos and owned by Union Bank of Nigeria which also operated a number of other sports teams. The club played in the first decade of the 21st century for a couple of seasons in the second tier of Nigerian football, the National Division 1. At last they were relegated to the third tier Nigeria Amateur League after the 2008–09 season. The Union Bank FC won again promotion in 2013 but sold their second division spot to the resurrected Stationery Stores FC. Instead the club joined the ''Metro Pro League'', a new privately run professional football league in Lagos. In June 2014 the club secured itself the one and only championship of this league, ahead of Bridge FC, formerly known as ''Julius Berger''. Both, the league and Union Bank FC were apparently disbanded after that. The Nigerian internationals Ayila Yussuf and Bernard Okorowanta commenced their careers in the early 2000s with the club. Onikan Stadium
The Mobolaji Johnson Arena is a multi-purpose stadium in Lagos. It is currently used for football (soccer), football matches and it is the home stadium of various Lagos teams, most notably Ikorodu United F.C., Stationery Stores F.C., First Bank F.C., First Bank and Julius Berger FC. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 people and is the oldest in Nigeria. Located on the southeastern corner of Lagos Island near Tafewa Balewa Square, the original stadium was built in 1930 and six years later named after George V of the United Kingdom, King George V. Between 1963 and 1973, it became known as the Lagos City Stadium. The current Onikan Stadium was renovated and reopened for football and cultural activities in the 1980s. The Nigerian National League (formerly known as ''National Division 1'') is the second tier of club football in Nigeria. History From 1997-2011, the league has been split into 1A for Northern teams and 1B for southern teams. The top two from each division are promoted to the Nigerian Premier League the next season. The exceptions were the 2005–06 and 2006-07 seasons where there were four divisions of eight teams each, with each division winner winning promotion. Nigeria Amateur League
National Nationwide League Division One (formerly known as Nigerian Amateur League) is the third level of club football in Nigeria. Every year, up to eight teams are promoted to the Professional Division One. Starting in 2012, the league changed its name from the Amateur League and will promote three teams per division instead of two. This was after a long delay in confirming promotions from the prior year due to teams' protests. As the "largest grassroots league in the world", promotion and relegation are not guaranteed. Most of the teams are sponsored by private citizens or Local Govt. Areas and funding at this level is minimal. Any team eligible to move to the National Division 1 must qualify for a Professional League license and commit to the increased spending. Atanda Ayila Yussuf (born 4 November 1984) is a Nigerian former professional footballer who played as a central defender or defensive midfielder. A former Nigerian youth international player, Yussuf moved to Ukrainian Premier League Dynamo Kyiv from Nigerian side Union Bank in 2003.
