Union 32 High School
Union High School District No. 32, known as U-32 High School or U-32, is in East Montpelier, Vermont, United States. It is the regional reform high school for the central Vermont towns of Berlin, Calais, Middlesex, East Montpelier, and Worcester, and students from Orange, Washington, and Roxbury can choose attend U-32 after middle school. It encompasses grades seven through twelve in a combined middle and senior high school. U32 Chronicle The school paper is the U-32 Chronicle. The paper is mostly read by the parents of students and by administrators, as well as non-authoring students. It publishes articles written by students including opinion pieces and satire. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 32.1 square miles (83.1 km2), of which 32.0 square miles (82.9 km2) is land and 0.1 square mile (0.3 km2) (0.34%) is water. Berlin ( ) is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States, founded in 1763. The population was 2,849 at the 2020 census. Being the town between Barre and Montpelier, the two largest cities in the region, much of the commercial business of the region can be found in Berlin, including parts of the Barre-Montpelier Road ( U.S. Route 302), and the Berlin Mall. History Berlin was chartered June 8, 1763. The name refers to Berlin, Germany, and was the only German town name in this new English colony. The grantees who received the 70 original rights to the township were priests, merchants and judges. The charter was issued by the Royal Governor of New Hampshire, Benning Wentworth, and stated that each "proprietor, settler or inhabitant" should pay one ear of Indian corn for each acre of land, and after ten years, one shilling for each 100 acres. Calais is a town in Washington County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,661 at the 2020 census. Calais is homophonous with ''callous''. Calais contains the unincorporated communities of Adamant, East Calais, North Calais, Kent's Corner, Maple Corner and Pekin. History Colonel Jacob Davis named Calais after the French port city of the same name, during a time of general enthusiasm for things French as a result of France's aid during the American Revolution. The Wheelocks and Parkers were the first families to settle the town, in the latter part of the 18th century. In the early and mid 19th century, the Vermont wool industry spawned sheep pastures in the town. Photographs of the time show a heavily de-forested Calais. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 39.9 square miles (103.2 km2), of which 39.7 square miles (102.7 km2) is land and 0.2 square mile (0.5 km2), or 0.53%, is water. History The town of Middlesex was granted by royal charter on June 8, 1763, by New Hampshire colonial governor Benning Wentworth. The town takes its boundaries from Waterbury, incorporated the previous day, and Worcester, which received its grant the same day as Middlesex. The source of the town's name is uncertain but it is supposed Wentworth, or a staff member, chose the name for its location between Waterbury and Worcester. Orange is a town in Orange County, Vermont, United States. The population was 1,048 at the 2020 census. The Miss North Carolina USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state North Carolina in the Miss USA pageant. This state is part of the RPM Productions group since 1992. In 2005, Miss North Carolina USA Chelsea Cooley won the Miss USA crown and placed in the top 10 at Miss Universe. Cooley is the first former Miss North Carolina Teen USA to win the Miss title, although not the first to have competed at Miss Teen USA.
