Unico Wilhelm Van Wassenaer
Unico Wilhelm, Count van Wassenaer Obdam (30 October 1692 – 9 November 1766) was a Dutch nobleman who was a diplomat as well as a composer. He reorganized the Bailiwick of Utrecht of the Teutonic Order. His most important surviving compositions are the ''Concerti Armonici'', which until 1980 had been misattributed to the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710–1736) and to Carlo Ricciotti (1681–1756). Early years Van Wassenaer was born into a distinguished family of wealth, power and accomplishment—the House of Wassenaer. His grandfather, Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam, was supreme commander of the confederate Dutch navy, and was killed in battle in 1665 in the Second Anglo-Dutch War; his father, Jacob van Wassenaer Obdam (younger), served as a general of the army in the War of the Spanish Succession, was defeated in 1703 in the Battle of Ekeren, and spent the rest of his career as a diplomat. Georg Desmarées
Georg Desmarées or Des Marées, (29 October 1697 – 3 October 1776) was a Swedish-born German portrait painter. Biography Desmarées was born in 1697 at Stockholm, Sweden. He was the son of immigrant parents Jean Desmarées and Sara Meijteris. He was instructed in painting by a maternal relative, Martin Meytens (1648–1736), and later he became his assistant. In 1724 he made a stay in Amsterdam, and in the following year in Nuremberg where he visited the drawing academy of Johann Daniel Preissler (1666 –1737) and then in Venice, where he received further training from Italian Rococo painter Giovanni Battista Piazzetta (ca 1682–1754). In 1731, he married Barbara Marie Schuhbauer and settled in Munich where he became a court painter. His wife died in 1743. He continued to reside in Munich until his own death in 1776. The United East India Company ( nl, Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, the VOC) was a chartered company established on the 20th March 1602 by the States General of the Netherlands amalgamating existing companies into the first joint-stock company in the world, granting it a 21-year monopoly to carry out trade activities in Asia. Shares in the company could be bought by any resident of the United Provinces and then subsequently bought and sold in open-air secondary markets (one of which became the Amsterdam Stock Exchange). ''Pulcinella'' is a one-act ballet by Igor Stravinsky based on an 18th-century play, ''Quatre Polichinelles semblables'' ("Four identical Pulcinellas"). Pulcinella is a stock character originating from ''commedia dell'arte''. The ballet premiered at the Paris Opera on 15 May 1920 under the baton of Ernest Ansermet. The dancer Léonide Massine created both the libretto and choreography, and Pablo Picasso designed the original costumes and sets. The ballet was commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev, impresario of the ''Ballets Russes''. A performance of the work typically lasts 35 minutes. The ballet score was revised by Stravinsky in 1965. Albert Elijah Dunning (January 5, 1844 – November 14, 1923) was an American Congregationalist theologian. Biography He was born in Brookfield, Connecticut and attended the Fort Edward Institute (1860–1861). He graduated from Bryant & Stratton College (1862) and Yale University (1867), where he was Phi Beta Kappa and a member of Skull and Bones. Additionally, he graduated from Andover Theological Seminary (1870), and Beloit College (1889) with a DD. He was pastor of the Highland Congregational Church in Roxbury, Boston (1870–1881). He was editor of ''The Congregationalist'' (1889–1911) and '' Pilgrim Teacher'' (1873–1877). He was author of ''Bible Studies'' (1886); ''Congregationalists in America'' (1894); and ''The Making of the Bible'' (1911). He married Harriet W. Beekman on December 27, 1870. Pietro Antonio Locatelli (3 September 1695 in Bergamo – 30 March 1764 in Amsterdam) was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist. Biography Bergamo Little is known about Locatelli's childhood. In his early youth he was the third violinist and held the title of '' virtuoso'' in the ''cappella musicale'' (musical establishment) of the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo.
