Unexpected Riches
''Unexpected Riches'' is a 1942 ''Our Gang'' short comedy film directed by Herbert Glazer. It was the 211th Our Gang short (211th episode, 122nd talking short, 123rd talking episode, and 42nd MGM produced episode). Plot Weighing themselves on a penny machine, the gang receives a fortune card predicting that they will receive "unexpected riches." Acting upon this, the kids decide to dig for buried treasure, using a fraudulent map provided by one of their wise-guy acquaintances. Though the treasure hunt comes a-cropper, the fortune card's prediction comes true in an unexpected fashion. Hal Law (February 21, 1904 - November 14, 1980) was an American short comedy film screenwriter and director. Hal was involved during the 1930s and 1940s, known for short films such as '' Goin' Fishin''', '' 1-2-3 Go'', '' Fightin' Fools'' and ''Baby Blues'' as part of the Our Gang, a series of American comedy short produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Symona Ferner Boniface (March 5, 1894 – September 2, 1950) was an American film actress, most frequently seen in bit parts in comedy shorts, mostly at Columbia Pictures, particularly those of ''The Three Stooges''. She appeared in 120 films between 1925 and 1950. Early life Boniface was born in New York City, the daughter of George C. Boniface, an actor, and his wife Norma ( Ferner) Boniface, an inventor. Symona's father was of English extraction and her mother of German heritage, though both were New York natives. Career Boniface is probably best known as a society matron foil for slapstick comedy trio the Three Stooges, intercepting many a flying pie. Ernestine Wade (August 7, 1906 – April 15, 1983) was an American actress. She was best known for playing the role of Sapphire Stevens on both the radio and TV versions of '' The Amos 'n' Andy Show''.
