Undetectable = Untransmittable
Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) is a message used in HIV campaigns. It implies that if someone has an undetectable viral load, they can not transmit the HIV to others through sexual medium. There have been many clinical trials that have established the validity of U = U and it has been scientifically proven. U = U is also used as an HIV prevention strategy, meaning that if someone is undetectable, they can not pass it further and hence, prevents the virus from spreading. This is known as Treatment as Prevention and abbreviated as TasP. Origins The U=U campaign was launched by the ''Prevention Access Campaign'' in early 2016 from a Scientific Consensus Statement. Fundación Huésped is a nonprofit foundation in Argentina. It was created in 1989 for the purpose of fighting HIV/AIDS, with a specific focus on creating a social environment that would allow the disease to be overcome. Since October 2015, the foundation has maintained a free testing center which allows rapid diagnosis of HIV/AIDS. History The first General Coordinator of Fundación Huésped was Roberto Jáuregui, who was one of the first people in Argentina to contract HIV and the first to make the diagnosis public. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) (, ONUSIDA) is the main advocate for accelerated, comprehensive and coordinated global action on the HIV/AIDS pandemic. A serodiscordant relationship, also known as mixed-status, is one where one partner is infected by HIV and the other is not. This contrasts with seroconcordant relationships, in which both partners are of the same HIV status. Serodiscordancy contributes to the spread of HIV/AIDS, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, Sub-Saharan nations such as HIV/AIDS in Lesotho, Lesotho.
