Under The Gaslight (film)
''Under the Gaslight'' is a 1914 American silent melodrama film produced by the Biograph Company, for theatrical impresarios Klaw & Erlanger, and distributed by The General Film Company. It is based on the old Victorian stage melodrama of the same name by Augustin Daly popular in the 1860s and 1870s and revived periodically for years afterwards. This film was directed by Lawrence Marston and stars Lionel Barrymore. Lawrence Marston
Lawrence Marston (June 8, 1857 – February 1, 1939) was an American actor, playwright, producer, stage director and film director. Biography Marston was born to a Jews, Jewish family in Hammerstadt, Bohemia, Austrian Empire (now Vlastějovice in the Czech Republic). Naturalized in Chicago, he lived mainly in New York City. After working as an actor, producer and director for the stage, he became a film director with the Biograph Studios. His first wife was actress Lillian Lewis (actress), Lillian Lewis, who he married in 1888. Marston's second wife Anna Cornelia Delves was billed as Mrs. Lawrence Marston. With her, he had his only daughter, Anna Lawrence Marston, who was baptized Catholic Church, Catholic at age 12. Lawrence Marston died February 1, 1939, in Manhattan. His ashes were interred into the mausoleum of Ferncliff Cemetery. Thomas Lockyer Jefferson (September 10, 1856 – April 2, 1932) was an American film and stage actor in mostly silent films. Biography He was born to Margaret Clements Lockyer (died 1861) and actor Joseph Jefferson. The '' Burns Mantle Yearbook'' reported that he was sixth in a line of famous Jeffersons. He had leading roles in several films including ''The Grim Game'' (1919) with Harry Houdini. He also starred in two film adaptations of Rip Van Winkle as the title character, a role his father had performed on stage. He toured the U.S. performing a starring role in the play '' Lightnin'.'' He married actress Daisy Jefferson and had three daughters from an earlier marriage. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress.
