''Under the Covers'' is the seventh studio album, and the first covers album recorded by Dwight Yoakam. It peaked at No. 8 on ''Billboards Top Country Albums chart, and No. 92 on the ''Billboard'' 200. Background As he had on the commercially disappointing ''Gone'' two years before, Yoakam continued to challenge expectations with a mixed bag of covers, including songs by The Clash, The Kinks, The Beatles, and the Rolling Stones that betrayed the singer’s affection for British rock. Two songs, "Here Comes the Night" and "Things We Said Today", were previously recorded for the 1992 compilation album ''La Croix d'Amour''. Dwight David Yoakam (born October 23, 1956) is an American singer-songwriter, actor, and film director. He first achieved mainstream attention in 1986 with the release of his debut album ''Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.''. Yoakam had considerable success throughout the late 1980s onward, with a total of ten studio albums for Reprise Records. Later projects have been released on Audium (now MNRK Music Group), New West, Warner, and Sugar Hill Records. "Tired of Waiting for You" is a song by the English rock band the Kinks. It was released as a single on 15 January 1965 in the UK and on 17 February 1965 in the USA. The single reached number one in the UK and number six in the US. It then appeared on their second studio album, ''Kinda Kinks''. It was the group's highest-charting single in the US - tied with "Come Dancing", which achieved the same chart position eighteen years later in 1983. "Train in Vain" is a song by the British punk rock band the Clash. It was released as the third and final single from their third studio album, '' London Calling'' (1979). The song was not originally listed on the album's track listing, appearing as a hidden track at the end of the album. This was because the track was added to the record at the last minute, when the sleeve was already in production. Some editions include the song in the track listing. It was the first Clash song to reach the United States Top 30 charts and in 2010, the song was ranked number 298 on '' Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. "Claudette" is a 1958 song which reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart that year in a recording by the Everly Brothers. It was the first notable success as a songwriter for Roy Orbison, who named it after his first wife. Orbison also recorded his own version of the song. Although originally released as the B-side to the Everly Brothers' number 1 hit "All I Have to Do is Dream", their recording of "Claudette" reached number 30 in its own right, and the two songs were jointly listed at number 1 in the UK. Ralph Edmund Stanley (February 25, 1927 – June 23, 2016) was an American bluegrass artist, known for his distinctive singing and banjo playing.
