Uncle John (film)
''Uncle John'' is a 2015 American thriller film directed by Steven Piet, who co-wrote it with producer Erik Crary. It stars John Ashton in the title role as a respected and well-liked townsperson who murders a local bully. John must deal with a spontaneous visit by his nephew (Alex Moffat), who has brought along his love interest (Jenna Lyng), and the suspicions of the murdered man's brother (Ronnie Gene Blevins). Uncle John's is a convenience store chain based in the Philippines owned and operated by Robinsons Convenience Stores Inc. History Ministop Philippines Uncle John's traces is roots to the Ministop franchise in the Philippines which was owned by Robinsons Convenience Stores Inc (RCSI). Robinsons Retail Holdings, Inc. (RRHI) of the Gokongwei Group entered into a partnership with Ministop Co. and Mitsubishi Corporation to run the Ministop franchise in the Philippines under RCSI. The first Ministop branch in the Philippines was opened in December 2000. In 2006, Ministop Philippines introduce the Uncle John's Fried Chicken which would become its flagship product. By 2014, it has grown to the second largest convenience store chain in the Philippines behind 7-Eleven with the opening of the 400th Ministop branch in Bonifacio Global City. ''Uncle John's Bathroom Readers'' are a series of books containing trivia and short essays on miscellaneous topics, ostensibly for reading in the bathroom. The books are credited to the Bathroom Readers' Institute, though Uncle John is a real person named John Javna, who created the series along with his brother Gordon, as well as a team of assistants. The books are published by Portable Press, an imprint of Printer's Row Publishing Group. The introductions in the books, as well as brief notes in some articles, provide small pieces of information about Uncle John. John McCarthy (computer Scientist)
John McCarthy (September 4, 1927 – October 24, 2011) was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist. He was one of the founders of the discipline of artificial intelligence. He co-authored the document that coined the term "artificial intelligence" (AI), developed the programming language family Lisp, significantly influenced the design of the language ALGOL, popularized time-sharing, and invented garbage collection. McCarthy spent most of his career at Stanford University. He received many accolades and honors, such as the 1971 Turing Award for his contributions to the topic of AI, the United States National Medal of Science, and the Kyoto Prize.
