Unbound Gravel
Unbound Gravel, formerly known as the Dirty Kanza, is an event comprising gravel racing covering various distances held annually during the late spring in the Flint Hills region of the Great Plains around Emporia, Kansas, United States. The race's organizers refer to the mile race as the "World's Premiere Gravel Grinder", and ranked as one of the top gravel bike races. Winners are awarded a belt buckle. Course Starting and ending in Emporia, the routes runs along rural roads in the Flint Hills of east-central Kansas. In some years the temperature on the route has exceeded , while other years have seen rain or hail. It is not uncommon for rain to turn some dirt roads into "mud roads". There are checkpoints spaced about 50 miles apart for longer races, and riders must carry water and food, as well as fix their own tires and bikes. Sofía Gómez Villafane (born 15 April 1994) is an Argentine cross-country mountain biker and cyclo-cross cyclist. She represented Argentina at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Women's cross-country. Career She was raised in Esquel, Patagonia until she was twelve, before moving with her family to Los Gatos, California. The fifth child of six, she discovered mountain biking through the Nor Cal High School Mountain Bike Program, and her brother found her a bike on Craigslist for $500. She went on to compete at the collegiate level for Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado where she received a Bachelor’s in exercise science and a minor in business administration. The Leadville Trail 100 MTB is the second oldest of the well-known marathon mountain bike races held in the United States, the oldest being the Wilderness 101 in Central PA. The Leadville Trail 100 MTB was first run in 1994 and has become one of the best marketed, attended and known marathon events in mountain bike racing. Entry to the event is controlled and restricted. Some entries are awarded by a random lottery, while other entries are awarded by finishing well in a series of qualifying events. Lottery entries are due by the end of December for the race that is run the second Saturday in August. Qualifying events are similar to the Leadville 100 race but shorter, typically around 100 km in length. The definition of ultra-distance cycling is far more vague than in ultra running (any race longer than a marathon) or in ultra-triathlon (any race longer than an Ironman Triathlon). Any bike race or ride longer than a century ride, which is , is sometimes considered to be ultra-distance cycling. Ashton Lambie (born December 12, 1990) is an American track cyclist known for being the first person to complete an Individual pursuit in under 4 minutes, and for his moustache. Career Lambie races on gravel in Kansas. In his debut at the Track National Championship, Lambie won the Individual Pursuit, and finished second in the omnium and points race. Alison Marie Tetrick (born April 4, 1985) is an American racing cyclist. She rode at the 2014 UCI Road World Championships. Tetrick comes from a sporting family – her grandfather, Paul Tetrick, won more than a dozen national time trial titles, whilst her father played American football for UCLA and subsequently competed in mountain biking. Alison competed as a tennis player whilst at college, becoming an All-American, before she took up elite competition in triathlon as an amateur after graduating. She switched to cycling after attending a USA Cycling Talent ID camp in 2008. In November 2015 she was announced as part of the inaugural squad for the team for the 2016 season.
