Unadilla is a town in Otsego County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 4,392. The name is derived from an Iroquois word for "meeting place". Unadilla is located in the southwestern corner of the county, southwest of Oneonta. The village of Unadilla is located in the southern part of the town. The mayor of Unadilla is David Welch, as of January 13, 2020. History The first settlement took place ''circa'' 1770 in the area of Sidney (in adjacent Delaware County), followed by Unadilla. Both Sidney and Unadilla were destroyed during the American Revolution and were re-established after the war. The town was formed from part of the Town of Otsego in 1792. Later the size of the town was reduced by the formation of new towns: Butternuts, Milford, and Oneonta in 1796, Otego (town), New York in 1822, and an addition to Butternuts in 1857. Unadilla is a village located in the Town of Unadilla in Otsego County, New York, United States. The population was 1,128 at the 2010 census. The Village of Unadilla is located in the southern part of the town, southwest of Oneonta. The community refers to itself as "The Village Beautiful." History The town was originally the site of a Seneca Indian village at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Unadilla Rivers, where the village of Sidney (in Delaware County) is now located. The name Unadilla, which represents one spelling from a number of different interpretations of several Iroquois dialects, is said to mean "Meeting Place", indicating the place where two rivers meet. Unadilla was first settled by whites around 1770. Unadilla Township is a civil township in the southwest corner of Livingston County, Michigan, United States. The population was 3,366 at the 2010 census. Communities There are no incorporated municipalities in the township. There are a few unincorporated communities and historic locales. *Bullis Crossing is at Barton Road and M-36 (). * Gregory began as a station on a branch of the Grand Trunk Western Railroad, which came through the farm of Halstead Gregory in 1884. Unadilla River
The Unadilla River is a river in the Central New York Region of New York State. The river begins northeast of the hamlet of Millers Mills and flows generally south to the village of Sidney, where it converges with the Susquehanna River, which drains into the Chesapeake Bay, a bay of the Atlantic Ocean. Most of the length of the Unadilla forms the western border of Otsego County and the eastern borders of Chenango and Madison counties, all in New York. This border made up a significant portion of the Fort Stanwix Treaty Line of 1768. It was meant to establish the border for an Indian reserve, beyond which European-American settlers were not supposed to go. Settlers resented British efforts to control their movements, and continued to encroach on Native American territories.
