Italian Mathematical Union
The Italian Mathematical Union ( it, Unione Matematica Italiana) is a mathematical society based in Italy. It was founded on December 7, 1922 by Luigi Bianchi, Vito Volterra, and most notably, Salvatore Pincherle, who became the Union's first President. History Salvatore Pincherle, professor at the University of Bologna, sent on 31 March 1922 a letter to all Italian mathematicians in which he planned the establishment of a national mathematical society. The creation was inspired by similar initiatives in other countries, such as the Société mathématique de France (1872), the Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung (1891), the American Mathematical Society (1891) and, above all, the International Mathematical Union (1920). The most important italian mathematicians of the time - among all Luigi Bianchi and Vito Volterra - encouraged Pincherle's initiative also by personally sending articles for the future Bulletin; overall, about 180 mathematicians replied to Pincherle's letter. Unique Molecular Identifier
Unique molecular identifiers (UMIs), or molecular barcodes (MBC) are short sequences or molecular "tags" added to DNA fragments in some next generation sequencing library preparation protocols to identify the input DNA molecule. These tags are added before PCR amplification, and can be used to reduce errors and quantitative bias introduced by the amplification. Applications include variant calling in ctDNA, gene expression in single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) and haplotyping via linked reads. See also * Batch effect * Multiplex (assay) In the biological sciences, a multiplex assay is a type of immunoassay that uses magnetic beads to simultaneously measure multiple analytes in a single experiment. A multiplex assay is a derivative of an ELISA using beads for binding the capture a ... References DNA sequencing {{genetics-stub ...

Ursa Minor
Ursa Minor (Latin: 'Lesser Bear', contrasting with Ursa Major), also known as the Little Bear, is a constellation located in the far northern sky. As with the Great Bear, the tail of the Little Bear may also be seen as the handle of a ladle, hence the North American name, Little Dipper: seven stars with four in its bowl like its partner the Big Dipper. Ursa Minor was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, and remains one of the 88 modern constellations. Ursa Minor has traditionally been important for navigation, particularly by mariners, because of Polaris being the north pole star. Polaris, the brightest star in the constellation, is a yellow-white supergiant and the brightest Cepheid variable star in the night sky, ranging in apparent magnitude from 1.97 to 2.00. Beta Ursae Minoris, also known as Kochab, is an aging star that has swollen and cooled to become an orange giant with an apparent magnitude of 2.08, only slightly fainter than Po ...

Main characters Hikaru Shidou is an eighth-grader with bright red eyes and scarlet hair, who is small for her age and often teased for her boyishness. She helps her parents and her three older brothers (Masaru, Satoru and Kakeru) to run a school for Kendo. She is headstrong and determined, and in many ways very childish, but she is fiercely loyal to her friends. In particular, she wants to save Cephiro in the first arc in order to return home to her dog, Hikari, her precious childhood friend. She uses fire-based spells, such as ''Arrow of Fire'' (Honoo no Ya) and ''Crimson Lightning''. Hikaru is very popular with fans, especially with boys, because of her sometimes childish behavior; for example, in the manga, where Fuu is "asking" Ferio to help them, Umi catches on to what she's doing, but Hikaru has no idea what' ...
