Attica, Kansas
Attica is a city in Harper County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 516. The town was named after the historical region of Attica, in Greece. History Land for the community was purchased in late June 1884 and became the end of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. The town was incorporated on February 16, 1885, with a population of 1,500 people. The population grew further until the Cherokee Outlet in northern Oklahoma was opened by a Land run in 1893, at which point many people moved south to that territory. Most of Attica is in Section 3 of Township 32 South of Range 9 West (S3-T32S-R9W) of the 6th Principal Meridian. The land for Attica was purchased from the Osage Land Trust, which also held the surrounding farmland. Pampa (from the Quechua: ''pampa'', meaning "plain") is a city in Gray County, Texas, United States. Its population was 16,867 as of the 2020 census. Pampa is the county seat of Gray County and is the principal city of the Pampa micropolitan statistical area, which includes both Gray and Roberts Counties. Pampa is named after the Pampas Lowlands in Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Pampa hosts the Top o' Texas Rodeo each year in July, which brings competitors from Texas and the surrounding states to Gray County. 1997 Prairie Dell-Jarrell Tornado
The 1997 Jarrell tornado was an exceptionally violent and destructive Fujita scale, F5 tornado that struck the community of Jarrell, Texas in the afternoon hours of May 27, killing 27 people and injuring a further 12. The tornado caused $40.1 million (1997 United States dollar, USD) in damages, and was the subject of multiple well-known photographs, earning the tornado the nickname of the "Dead Man Walking". The multiple-vortex tornado stalled over the Double Creek Estates housing subdivision for approximately 3 minutes at high-end F5 strength, causing arguably some of the most severe tornado damage ever recorded.
