Ulrich Luz
Ulrich Luz (23 February 1938 – 13 October 2019) was a Swiss citizen, Swiss theologian and professor emeritus at the University of Bern. Early life He was born on 23 February 1938 in Männedorf. He studied Protestant theology in Zurich, Göttingen and Basel under Hans Conzelmann, Eduard Schweizer and Gerhard Ebeling. Academic career He taught at the International Christian University in Tokyo from 1970 to 1971. From 1972 to 1980 he was professor for New Testament studies at Göttingen University. He was the New Testament professor at the University of Bern in Switzerland until his retirement in 2003. Much of his research focused on the Gospel of Matthew and was made available in English in the Hermeneia commentary on the Gospel, which was released in three volumes over a period of more than 20 years. Gerhard Ebeling
Gerhard Ebeling (1912–2001) was a German Lutheran theologian and with Ernst Fuchs a leading proponent of new hermeneutic theology in the 20th century. Life Ebeling was born on 6 July 1912 in Steglitz, Berlin, where he attended the gymnasium and began his university study. Ebeling was later a student of Rudolf Bultmann and Wilhelm Maurer in Marburg and of Emil Brunner at the University of Zürich, Switzerland. The years of his study in Berlin, Marburg, and Zürich fell in the period of Nazism in Germany, and his contact with Dietrich Bonhoeffer as well as his work in the Confessing Church had an enduring influence on his thought. He completed his Doctor of Theology degree in 1938 at the University of Zürich under the supervision of ; his dissertation was entitled ''Evangelical Interpretation of the Gospels: An Investigation of Luther's Hermeneutic''.. British Academy
The British Academy is the United Kingdom's national academy for the humanities and the social sciences. It was established in 1902 and received its royal charter in the same year. It is now a fellowship of more than 1,000 leading scholars spanning all disciplines across the humanities and social sciences and a funding body for research projects across the United Kingdom. The academy is a self-governing and independent registered charity, based at 10–11 Carlton House Terrace in London. The British Academy is funded with an annual grant from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). Burkitt Medal
The Burkitt Medal is awarded annually by the British Academy "in recognition of special service to Biblical Studies".
