Ukraine competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics. The country repeated its 2004 performance in terms of total medals, but its gold medal haul fell slightly from 8 to 7. Medalists Archery Ukraine's men's archery team took seventh place at the 2007 World Outdoor Target Championships, earning the nation a full complement of three qualification spots for the Olympic men's competitions. The women's team finished in tenth place, six points shy of qualifying as well. Nevertheless, two Ukrainian women (Tetyana Berezhna and Viktoriya Koval) did earn spots via individual qualification in that tournament. Ukraine has won a silver medal and two bronzes in previous Games, including the bronze medal in the men's team competition in 2004. Halyna Vasylivna Pundyk ( uk, Галина Василівна Пундик; born November 7, 1987) is a Ukrainian gold medallist in sabre fencing. She was a member of the team that won the gold medal in sabre at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The Ukrainian women's team won gold in the sabre final, beating Russia during the 2009 and 2010 European Fencing Championships. Boxing At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Featherweight
The featherweight competition was the fourth-lowest weight class featured in amateur boxing at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and was held at the Workers Indoor Arena. Featherweights were limited to a maximum of 57 kilograms in body mass. Like all Olympic boxing events, the competition was a straight single-elimination tournament. Both semifinal losers were awarded bronze medals, so no boxers competed again after their first loss. Bouts consisted of four rounds of two minutes each, with one-minute breaks between rounds. Punches scored only if the white area on the front of the glove made full contact with the front of the head or torso of the opponent. Five judges scored each bout; three of the judges had to signal a scoring punch within one second for the punch to score. The women's K-1 500 metres competition in canoeing at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place at the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park in Beijing. Nataliya Dobrynska ( uk, Наталія Добринська; born 29 May 1982) is a retired Ukrainian heptathlete. She is the 2008 Olympic champion and also holds the heptathlon best in the shot put. Her indoor pentathlon best of 5013 points is the world record for the event. Career She competed in the 2004 Olympics, finishing eighth.
