Ujjal Singha
Ujjal Singha is a Sahitya Akademy prize winning poet based in Kolkata. Born in Garshimula village of Jamtara district in Jharkhand, Singha obtained his master's degree in Bengali from University of Calcutta. He first started off as an official in a nationalised bank in Kolkata and kept on writing poetry and other literary works. He quit job in 2001 to become a full-time poet. He is also an essayist and translator into Bengali from Hindi, English and French. He received ''Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize'' in 2009 for translating Mitro Marjani (a novel of Krishna Sobti) into Bengali from Hindi. He also translated poems of French poet Franck André Jamme ( Franck André Jamme). Franck André Jamme
Franck André Jamme (21 November 1947 – 1 October 2020) was a French poet. Biography He specialized in the tribal arts of contemporary India, La Pléiade, and René Char. Since 1981, he has published twelve collections containing poems and fragments. He was also a translator of, among others, Lokenath Bhattacharya and Udayan Vajpeyi. For his works, Jamme received the Grand prix de poésie de la SGDL The grand prix de poésie de la SGDL is a French literary award created by the Société des gens de lettres in 1983 in order to reward an author for the whole of his work. Sunil Gangopadhyay
Sunil Gangopadhyay or Sunil Ganguly (7 September 1934 – 23 October 2012) was an Indian poet, historian and novelist in the Bengali language based in the city of Kolkata. He is a former Sheriff of Calcutta. Gangopadhyay obtained his master's degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. In 1953 he and a few of his friends started a Bengali poetry magazine, '' Krittibas''. Later he wrote for many different publications. Ganguly created the Bengali fictional character '' Kakababu'' whose real name is Raja Roy Chowdhury and his passion is to solve mysteries. He wrote 36 novels in Kakababu series which became significant in Indian children's literature. He received ''Sahitya Akademi'' award in 1985 for his novel '' Those Days'' (''Sei Samay''). Krishna Sobti
Krishna Sobti (18 February 1925 – 25 January 2019) was an Indian Hindi-language fiction writer and essayist. She won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1980 for her novel ''Zindaginama'' and in 1996, was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, the highest award of the Akademi. In 2017, she received the Jnanpith Award for her contribution to Indian literature. Sobti is best known for her 1966 novel ''Mitro Marajani'', an unapologetic portrayal of a married woman's sexuality. Jamtara district (Hindi: जामताड़ा जिला, Bengali: জামতাড়া জেলা, Santali: ᱡᱟᱢᱛᱟᱲᱟ ᱦᱚᱱᱚᱛ) is one of the twenty-four districts of Jharkhand state in eastern India.
