Ugly Men's Association
The Ugly Men's Voluntary Worker's Association of Western Australia Inc., generally shortened to the Ugly Men's Association or Ugly Men was a uniquely Western Australian fund-raising and charitable organisation established in 1917. Previously, a Mrs Alicia Pell had organised an "Uglie Man" competition to raise funds for the Red Cross in Kalgoorlie. The East Perth Football Club then built on the concept to raise funds for the Perth Children's Hospital and the War Patriotic Fund. Phillimore Street is a street in Fremantle, Western Australia; it runs between Queen Street, outside the Fremantle railway station and Cliff Street. The human history of Western Australia commenced between 40,000 and 60,000 years ago with the arrival of Aboriginal Australians on the northwest coast. The first inhabitants expanded across the east and south of the continent. Harry Mann
Henry Willoughby Mann (18 July 1873 – 4 October 1952) was an Australian police officer and politician who was a Nationalist Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1921 to 1933, representing the seat of Perth. Mann was born in Talbot, Victoria, to Mary Jane (née Willoughby) and Henry Boar Mann. He came to Western Australia in 1895, and in 1897 joined the Western Australia Police. By his retirement in 1920, Mann had reached the rank of detective inspector and served as the chief of the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB). He was very active in the Perth community, serving at various points as governor of the Perth Children's Hospital, president of the East Perth Football Club, president of the Ugly Men's Association (a charity group), and chairman of a school for returned soldiers. Alexander McAllister Clydesdale MBE (16 July 1875 – 24 January 1947) was an Australian politician who served in both houses of the Parliament of Western Australia, as a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1921 to 1930 and as a member of the Legislative Council from 1932 to 1938. Clydesdale was born in Ballarat, Victoria, to Kate (née Glenn) and James Robert Clydesdale. He was articled to an architect for a period and then trained as a plumber. Lotterywest was established in 1932 as the Lotteries Commission of Western Australia, to run the lottery in Western Australia. It is referred to in the legislation as the Lotteries Commission.
