Ugly Casanova
Ugly Casanova is an American indie rock band signed to Sub Pop Records. The band has released one album, ''Sharpen Your Teeth''. Career According to the Ugly Casanova website, in 1998 a man named Edgar E. Graham, a.k.a. "Ugly Casanova", impressed himself upon the band Modest Mouse while backstage at a concert in Denver, Colorado. After some prodding, he shared his work with the band and began performing it early before shows while some people were milling around. Whenever he completed these performances, he retreated quickly with a look of anger and shame. After a time, a few small recordings were created, after which Edgar vanished. Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse later recorded his songs in hopes that Graham would resurface in the music scene. Isaac Brock has since revealed that Edgar Graham was "a fiction thing that rockstarted awhile back to eliminate imselffrom the band," to escape having to do interviews. Issaquah, Washington
Issaquah ( ) is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 40,051 at the 2020 census. Located in a valley and bisected by Interstate 90, the city is bordered by the Sammamish Plateau to the north and the "Issaquah Alps" to the south. It was founded by Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman as an independent label in 1995, and was acquired by UMG in 2000. K Records is an independent record label in Olympia, Washington founded in 1982. Artists on the label included early releases by Beck, Modest Mouse and Built to Spill. The record label has been called "key to the development of independent music" since the 1980s. The label was founded by Beat Happening frontman Calvin Johnson and managed for many years by Candice Pedersen. Many early releases were on the cassette tape format, making the label one of the longest lasting reflections of the cassette culture of the 1970s and early 1980s. Calvin Johnson (born November 1, 1962) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, music producer, and disc jockey. Known for his uniquely deep and droning singing voice, Johnson was a founding member of the bands Cool Rays, Beat Happening, Dub Narcotic Sound System, The Go Team and The Halo Benders. Calvin Johnson is also the founder and owner of the influential indie label K Records and has been cited as a major player in the beginning of the modern independent music movement. Distortion and overdrive are forms of audio signal processing used to alter the sound of amplified electric musical instruments, usually by increasing their gain, producing a "fuzzy", "growling", or "gritty" tone. Distortion is most commonly used with the electric guitar, but may also be used with other electric instruments such as electric bass, electric piano, synthesizer and Hammond organ. Guitarists playing electric blues originally obtained an overdriven sound by turning up their vacuum tube-powered guitar amplifiers to high volumes, which caused the signal to distort. Double tracking or doubling is an audio recording technique in which a performer sings or plays along with their own prerecorded performance, usually to produce a stronger or bigger sound than can be obtained with a single voice or instrument. It is a form of overdubbing; the distinction comes from the doubling of a part, as opposed to recording a different part to go with the first. The effect can be further enhanced by panning one of the performances hard left and the other hard right in the stereo field. Automation Artificial or automatic double tracking, also known as ADT, was developed at Abbey Road Studios by engineers recording The Beatles in the 1960s. ''We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank'' is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Modest Mouse, released in 2007. It followed their previous studio album, 2004's ''Good News for People Who Love Bad News''. It is the band's only full-length with former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr as a member. It is also their last with founding member and bassist Eric Judy. It has a strong nautical theme and was originally envisioned as a concept album about a boat crew that dies in every song. This album was certified Gold by the RIAA on June 11, 2009. As of February 2015, it has sold 649,000 copies in the US. The Fruit That Ate Itself
''The Fruit That Ate Itself'' is the third EP by indie rock band Modest Mouse, released in 1997. The album was recorded at Calvin Johnson's ''Dub Narcotic Studios''. Release Originally, the session was planned to record a 7" release, but it soon expanded into an EP. The track "Dirty Fingernails" also appears on ''Yoyo A Go Go'', a compilation album released by Yoyo Records. A limited Japanese edition was also released with 5 bonus tracks, which appeared on the band's debut single, ''Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect?'' Along with ''Sad Sappy Sucker'', the EP was reissued on CD and vinyl by Glacial Pace Recordings on November 9, 2010.
