The Ugashik Lakes are two adjacent lakes along the Ugashik River on the Alaska Peninsula in the U.S. state of Alaska. The lakes are world-renowned for trophy Arctic grayling fishing. Lake and Peninsula Borough (russian: Лейк-энд-Пенинсула, ''Leyk-end-Peninsula'') is a borough in the state of Alaska. As of the 2020 census, the population was 1,476, down from 1,631 in 2010. The borough seat of King Salmon is located in neighboring Bristol Bay Borough, although is not the seat of that borough. The most populous community in the borough is the census-designated place of Port Alsworth. With an average of 0.017 inhabitants/km2 (0.045/sq mi), the Lake and Peninsula Borough is the second least densely populated organized county-equivalent in the United States; only the unorganized Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area has a lower density. Ugashik River
The Ugashik River is a stream, long, on the Alaska Peninsula of the U.S. state of Alaska. It flows from headwaters near Lower Ugashik Lake and empties into Ugashik Bay, an estuary of the Bering Sea's Bristol Bay. The origin of the name Ugashik is somewhat obscure, although early spelling variants such as Oogashik and Ougashick suggest the name pertains to the source of the river: two waters (lakes) and its muddy character. The river has two major tributaries and one minor: the King Salmon River and the Dog Salmon River both have confluences near the river mouth at Ugashik Bay, while the smaller Dago Creek joins just four miles (6 km) from Smoky Point, where Ugashik Bay and Bristol Bay meet. Becharof Lake is a long lake on the Alaska Peninsula. It is located south-east of Egegik, in the Aleutian Range. It is the second largest lake in Alaska after Iliamna Lake. Ugashik (''Ugaasaq'' in Sugpiaq) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake and Peninsula Borough, Alaska, United States. The population was 4 at the 2020 census, down from 12 in 2010. Geography Ugashik is located on the Alaska Peninsula at (57.534143, -157.268870). The community sits on the east bank of the Ugashik River, upriver (east) from its mouth in Ugashik Bay, an arm of Bristol Bay of the Bering Sea, and downriver (west) from the mouth of Lower Ugashik Lake. The CDP extends east as far as the west shores of Lower and Upper Ugashik Lakes. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , of which are land and , or 7.15%, are water.
