Udine Railway Station
Udine railway station ( it, Stazione di Udine) serves the city and ''comune'' of Udine, in the autonomous region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northeastern Italy. Opened in 1860, it is a junction of five lines, to Venice, Trieste, Tarvisio, Cervignano and Cividale, respectively. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). However, the commercial area of the passenger building is managed by Centostazioni. Each of these companies is a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Italy's state-owned rail company. Train services to and from the station are operated by Trenitalia, ÖBB and Ferrovie Udine-Cividale. Udine ( , ; fur, Udin; la, Utinum) is a city and ''comune'' in north-eastern Italy, in the middle of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, between the Adriatic Sea and the Alps (''Alpi Carniche''). Its population was 100,514 in 2012, 176,000 with the urban area. Names and etymology Udine was first attested in medieval Latin records as ''Udene'' in 983 and as ''Utinum'' around the year 1000. Cormons ( it, Stazione di Cormons) is a railway station serving the town of Cormons, in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, northern Italy. The station is located on the Udine–Trieste railway. The train services are operated by Trenitalia. History The station should have been located on the Cormons-Redipuglia railway, however construction of the line never finished and therefore trains never ran on this line. Until 1918 it was one of the last Austro Hungarian stations before the border with Italy, the latter ran along Iudrio River. Its Habsburg heritage is visible by the building style.
