Uchechi Kalu
Uchechi Kalu is an Igbo Nigerian-born multidisciplinary artist, poet and creativity coach, in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, southeastern Nigeria. She is best known for her work as a poet, technologist, and entrepreneur. She studied with the late poet June Jordan and taught poetry with the Poetry For The People program. She continues to write and perform on stages around the world. Biography Uchechi Kalu joined the South Carolina Governor's School for Art and Humanities at 8th Grade after she attended the schools Discovery Program for Voice. Ohafia is an Igbo town in the Ohafia local government area (LGA) in Abia State, Nigeria. It is an Igbo speaking region. The ancestral capital of Ohafia town is the centrally located village of Elu. Ohafia Local Government Area, is an administrative jurisdiction assigned by the Nigeria Government, which covers the entire Ohafia villages and other towns such as Abiriba and Nkporo, with its Administrative Headquarters at Ebem Ohafia. Abia State
Abia State ( ig, Ȯha Abia) is a state in the South-East geopolitical zone of Nigeria, it is bordered to the north and northeast by the states of Enugu, and Ebonyi, Imo State to the west, Cross River State to the east, Akwa Ibom State to the southeast, and Rivers State to the south. June Jordan
June Millicent Jordan (July 9, 1936 – June 14, 2002) was an American poet, essayist, teacher, and activist. In her writing she explored issues of gender, race, immigration, and representation. Jordan was passionate about using Black English in her writing and poetry, teaching others to treat it as its own language and an important outlet for expressing Black culture. Jordan was inducted on the National LGBTQ Wall of Honor within the Stonewall National Monument in 2019. Early life Jordan was born in 1936 in Harlem, New York, as the only child of Granville Ivanhoe Jordan and Mildred Maude Fisher, immigrants from Jamaica and Panama.
