UTS Haberfield Rowing Club
UTS Haberfield Rowing Club in Sydney was formed as Haberfield Rowing Club in 1925. It has occupied its current site on Port Jackson's, Iron Cove at Dobroyd Point since 1926. The club had a senior and lightweight Sydney premiership & national competition focus until 1992 when it became aligned with the University of Technology, Sydney and since then it has also been a varsity club. Its elite program has enjoyed great success since the 1990s with a number of the club's oarsmen and women making Australian Olympic selection since then. History The Haberfield Rowing Club campus was formed by charter in 1925 but had some initial difficulties in getting council approval for its clubhouse site. In early 1926 it opened its £1,300 club house at Dobroyd Point. Early success on the river was attained due to the skilled coaching of Bern Williams, their captain, and the club finished second in the junior pennant in 1926/27 and second in both senior and junior pennants in the 1927/28 seasons. ... Stuart Welch
Stuart Thomas Welch (born 15 November 1977) is an Australian former representative rower who won medals at his two Olympic games appearances. Club and state rowing Born in Sydney, Welch was educated at Sydney Grammar School where he took up rowing. His senior club rowing was from the UTS Haberfield Rowing Club on Sydney's Iron Cove. New South Wales state representation first came for Welch in the 1996 youth eight who contested and won the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the Interstate Regatta within the Australian Rowing Championships. He rowed again in the New South Wales youth eight in 1997. In 1999 he was selected in the New South Wales men's eight to race for the King's Cup at the Interstate Regatta. Samuel Loch
Samuel Loch (born 26 June 1983) is an Australian former representative rower. A dual Olympian and two time bronze medal winner at World Championships, he has set and holds world records in indoor rowing with times set on the Concept 2 rowing machine. Education Loch began his rowing at The King's School in Sydney and was in the stroke seat of the school's 2001 First VIII which won 28 races from 28 starts including the AAGPS Head of the River. This crew also contained future Australian senior national rowers Nicholas Hudson and Matt Ryan, and went on to win the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at the 2001 Henley Royal Regatta. James Chapman (rower)
James Jonathan Chapman (born 2 November 1979) is an Australian former national, Olympic representative and Olympic medal winning rower. Education Raised in Sydney, Chapman attended Newington College where he was coached by Michael Morgan , an Olympian and fellow Old Newingtonian, and Robert Buntine, deputy headmaster. In 1997 he was a member of the Newington Head of the River winning 1st VIII that won the centenary regatta. He studied accounting at the University of Technology Sydney. Rowing At The 2000 Summer Olympics – Men's Coxless Four
The men's coxless four competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia took place at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. Competition format This rowing event is a sweep rowing event, meaning that each rower has one oar and rows on only one side. Four rowers crew each boat, and no coxswain is used. The competition consists of multiple rounds. Finals were held to determine the placing of each boat; these finals were given letters with those nearer to the beginning of the alphabet meaning a better ranking. Semifinals were named based on which finals they fed, with each semifinal having two possible finals. With 13 boats in with heats, the best boats qualify directly for the semi-finals.
