US 666 (AZ)
U.S. Route 191 (US 191) is a north–south United States Highway within Arizona. The highway runs for , the longest of any numbered highway in Arizona, from State Route 80 near Douglas to the Utah state line near Mexican Water. As it crosses the state, US 191 overlaps at various points: I-10, US 70, US 180, US 60, SR 61, I-40, SR 264, and US 160. Previously the route was designated as US 666 and SR 63. Route description Douglas to Safford The national southern terminus of US 191 is located at an intersection with SR 80 west of Douglas, in Cochise County. State Route 61, also known as SR 61, is a state highway in northern Arizona running generally southwest to northeast, from its southern terminus at U.S. Route 60 (US 60) east of Show Low to the New Mexico border at Zuni, where it becomes New Mexico State Road 53. Parts of this route, particularly near St. Johns, overlap US 180 and US 191. Route description The southern terminus of SR 61 is located at a junction with US 60 east of Show Low. From here, the highway heads towards the northeast towards an intersection with SR 180A. After this intersection, SR 61 begins to follow a more easterly heading to a junction with US 180. Cochise, Arizona
Cochise is an unincorporated community located in Cochise County, Arizona, Cochise County, Arizona, United States. The city was created alongside the Southern Pacific Railroad in the 1880s. The city was primarily a stop for coal and water which were needed for trains at the time. At its peak, the town had a population of approximately 3,000 people. Today, only 50 people still live in Cochise. The town is also home to several historic locations. In 1899, Big Nose Kate, the famed sidekick of Doc Holliday, lived in Cochise while she was working at the Cochise Hotel after Holliday's death. Sunsites, Arizona
Pearce, Arizona, and Sunsites, Arizona, are adjacent unincorporated communities in the Sulphur Springs Valley of Cochise County, Arizona, United States. The two communities are often referred to as Pearce–Sunsites, Pearce/Sunsites, or Pearce Sunsites. Pearce is located between the Cochise Stronghold, Chiricahua National Monument, and the winter Sandhill Crane refuge of Whitewater Draw making it popular for birders, history buffs, hikers, and climbers alike. At 4,400 feet of elevation, the area is also known for its milder summers which make it ideal for quality grapes and vineyards (recognized as an American Viticultural Area). Chiricahua National Monument
Chiricahua National Monument is a unit of the National Park System located in the Chiricahua Mountains of southeastern Arizona. The monument was established on April 18, 1924, to protect its extensive hoodoos and balancing rocks. The Faraway Ranch, which was owned at one time by Swedish immigrants Neil and Emma Erickson, is also preserved within the monument. Just over 85% of the monument is protected as the Chiricahua National Monument Wilderness. Visitor center A visitor center is located two miles from the entrance to Chiricahua National Monument. State Route 181 (SR 181) is a highway in Cochise County, Arizona that runs from its junction with US 191 east of Pearce to the Chiricahua National Monument. It is an east–west route for the half east of Pearce, but becomes a primarily north–south route on the half approaching the monument. SR 181 serves primarily as an access to the monument, although it also services the settlement of Sunizona east of Pearce. Route description The western terminus is located at US 191 east of Pearce. The highway heads east from this intersection through Sunizona where the highway briefly heads towards the south before curving back towards the east.
