USS Assurance (AG-521)
USS ''Assurance'' (AM-521/MSO-521) was an acquired by the U.S. Navy for the task of removing mines that had been placed in the water to prevent the safe passage of ships. The first ship to be named ''Assurance'' by the Navy, ''MSO-521'' was laid down on 28 January 1957 at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, by Peterson Builders, Inc.; launched on 31 August 1957; sponsored by Mrs. Vernon W. Thomson; and commissioned at Boston, Massachusetts, on 21 November 1958, Lt. Comdr. Frank L. Crump, Jr., in command. Guantánamo Bay ( es, Bahía de Guantánamo) is a bay in Guantánamo Province at the southeastern end of Cuba. It is the largest harbor on the south side of the island and it is surrounded by steep hills which create an enclave that is cut off from its immediate hinterland. The United States assumed territorial control over the southern portion of Guantánamo Bay under the 1903 Lease. The United States exercises jurisdiction and control over this territory, while recognizing that Cuba retains ultimate sovereignty. Port Arthur, Texas
Port Arthur is a city in Jefferson County within the Beaumont–Port Arthur metropolitan area of the U.S. state of Texas. A small, uninhabited portion extends into Orange County; it is east of Houston. The largest oil refinery in the United States, the Motiva Refinery, is located in Port Arthur. The population of Port Arthur was 53,818 at the 2010 census, down from 57,755 at the 2000 census. Charleston Naval Shipyard (formerly known as the Charleston Navy Yard) was a U.S. Navy ship building and repair facility located along the west bank of the Cooper River, in North Charleston, South Carolina and part of Naval Base Charleston.
