USS Arivaca (YTM-259)
was laid down on 25 April 1944 at San Francisco, California by Anderson & Cristofani; reclassified a large harbor tug and redesignated YTB-259 on 15 May 1944; launched on 28 October 1944; and placed in service on 24 January 1945. Service life ''Arivaca'' was assigned duty in the 12th Naval District and remained so occupied until the middle of 1955. At the beginning of the summer of 1955, the tug was deactivated preparatory to being loaned to some organization whose identity is not now known. The transfer appears to have taken place in November 1955, and the loan lasted almost two years. In October 1957, the tug returned to active service in the 12th Naval District. In February 1962, ''Arivaca'' was reclassified a medium harbor tug and was redesignated YTM-259. Two years later, on 17 February 1964, ''Arivaca'' was sold by the Navy and renamed ''Sea Hawk'', Official Number 294212. USS Menoquet (YTB-256)
was laid down as YT‑256 by Anderson and Cristofani, San Francisco, California 11 September 1943; named ''Menoquet'' 5 January 1944; launched 5 February 1944, sponsored by Mrs. Alfred Cristofani; reclassified YTB‑256 on 15 May 1944; and completed and placed in service at Mare Island, California., 7 June 1944. Harbor tugs (YT) were named after American Indian tribes. Service life Joining the Service Squadron of the South Pacific Force, Menoquet had tug and harbor duty at the various bases from which America’s victory over Japan was staged, supporting combatants and logistics ships. On 1 May 1945 she was transferred to the 7th Fleet, and during the closing months of fighting in the Pacific she continued to serve at advanced bases in the western Pacific. Anderson & Cristofani was a wooden shipbuilding company in San Francisco, California. To support the World War 2 demand for ships Anderson & Cristofani shipyard switched over to military construction and built: US Navy APc-1-class small coastal transports, APC coastal transports, tugboats, Patrol Boats and Minesweepers. History Founded by Walter Anderson and Alfred Christofani. Anderson & Cristofani was started the early 1870s building San Francisco Bay scow schooners, which they built till the mid-1930s. Anderson & Cristofani built pleasure craft and workboats. The naval district was a U.S. Navy military and administrative command ashore. Apart from Naval District Washington, the Districts were disestablished and renamed Navy Regions about 1999, and are now under Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC).
