USS Alamingo (YTB-227)
was laid down on 13 April 1944 at Camden, New Jersey, by the Mathis Yacht Building Co.; reclassified a large harbor tug and redesignated YTB-227 on 15 May 1944; launched on 21 October 1944; and placed in service on 19 February 1945. Initially assigned to the 7th Naval District, ''Alamingo'' plied the coastal waters of Florida until sometime in 1947. At that time, she was transferred to the 5th Naval District and based at Norfolk, Virginia. After almost a decade of service in the Chesapeake Bay area, the large harbor tug was reassigned to the 3d Naval District late in 1956.
