Cody Mattern
Cody Mattern (born February 23, 1981) is an American fencer. He competed in the individual and team épée events at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He coached at the Northwest Fencing Center, in Beaverton, Oregon. Fencing He started fencing at Northwest Fencing Center, in 1996. In 1998 and 1999, he won the Junior National Championships. In 2001 he won Division 1A, and Division 1 National Championships. He won the silver at a World Cup Grand Prix. He was an Olympic épée fencer at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Cody was on the men's Épée team that rolled in at second place at the 2010 World Fencing Championships, in Paris. Michael Lofton
Mika'il Sankofa (born Michael Lofton, 10 December 1963 in Montgomery, Alabama) is a world recognized sabre fencer and coach. He competed in the individual and team sabre events at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. Background During his fencing career, Sankofa trained under Tanya Adamovich, Csaba Elthes, Peter Frohlich, Szabo Adrosh, Christian Bauer and Lazlo Szepesi. A graduate of New York University with a BA in Economics, Sankofa is a former publicist who has worked for firms such as Ernst & Young, Grey Advertising, Kirshenbaum, Bond & Partners and Shandwick International. From 1990 - 2009, Sankofa served as co-founder, director of athletics and fencing coach for the Peter Westbrook Foundation. Michael Marx
Michael Marx (born July 7, 1958) is an American foil and epee fencer and fencing master. He is the brother of Robert Marx, who has also represented the U.S. in multiple Olympic fencing events. Michael and his brother were taught to fence by their mother, fencing coach Colleen Olney, who is considered by many prominent fencers to be "the mother of fencing in Oregon". Fencing career Marx won a silver medal in foil at the World University Games in 1985. He is an 8-time United States national men's foil champion (1977, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990, and 1993). He is also a five-time Olympian in both foil and epee (1980, 1984, 1988, 1992, and 1996). Although Marx qualified for the 1980 Olympic team he did not compete due to the Olympic Committee's boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russia. John Friedberg
John Friedberg (born March 9, 1961) is an American Olympic saber fencer. Early and personal life Friedberg was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and is Jewish. He is the younger brother of Olympic fencer Paul Friedberg. He lives in Robbinsville Township, New Jersey. Fencing career Friedberg fenced for the University of North Carolina, took second in the NCAA Saber Championship in 1982, and won it as a senior in 1983. He was a three-time All American. Friedberg won silver medal in team sabre at the 1991 Pan American Games and gold in the 1995 Pan American Games. He competed in the team sabre event at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Friedberg came in second in the 1993 US Championship in sabre, and won the 1994 US Championship in sabre. Friedberg founded and is head coach of the Fencing Club of Mercer County in New Jersey. Peter Westbrook
Peter Jonathan Westbrook (born April 16, 1952) is an American former sabre fencing champion, active businessman and founder of the Peter Westbrook Foundation. A former U.S. champion and Olympic medalist, Westbrook's career began when his Japanese mother convinced him to try fencing. He founded the Peter Westbrook Foundation (PWF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses fencing as a vehicle in developing life and academic skills for young people from under-served communities of New York City. Tamir Bloom (born December 24, 1971) is an American epee fencer. Personal life Bloom was born in New York City, and is Jewish. He is a cousin of Israeli Olympian judoka Gil Ofer. Bloom has both U.S. and Israeli citizenship. He attended Millburn High School. Bloom's father is artist Murray Bloom.
