USC Trojans Men's Volleyball
USC Trojans men's volleyball is a collegiate volleyball team that represents the University of Southern California (USC). The team participates as a member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), an athletic conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The program began in 1970 and first awarded schlorships during the 1976–77 season. The program has won the NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship four times, and placed second seven times. Home games are played at Galen Center on the USC campus in Los Angeles, California. Venues The North Gym, located in the USC Physical Education Building, was the team's home court from 1970 until 1988. From 1989 to 2006, the North Gym and the Lyon Center split time as the team's home court. Jeff Nygaard
Jeff Wayne Nygaard (born August 3, 1972, in Madison, Wisconsin) is an American volleyball and beach volleyball player who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics with partner Dain Blanton in Athens, Greece. In 1996 and 2000 he was a member of the Men's Olympic National Indoor Team. He is a middle blocker. He attended La Follette High School in Madison, Wisconsin, where he played volleyball under coach Randy Ramig. Nicknamed "Little Ny" because his older, and then larger, brother Brad also played on the volleyball team, Nygaard improved quickly to become a key and then a star player. The La Follette High School volleyball team won state championships in 1987 and 1989 and came in second in 1988. In 1989 and 1990, he played for the Wisconsin Select volleyball club. He was named college player of the year in 1994 and 1995. Nygaard was an assistant coach for the Whittier College women's volleyball team in 2009. Galen Center
The Galen Center is a multipurpose indoor arena and athletic facility owned and operated by the University of Southern California. Located at the southeast corner of Jefferson Boulevard and Figueroa Street in the Exposition Park (Los Angeles), Exposition Park area of Los Angeles, California, United States, it is right across the street from the campus and near the Shrine Auditorium. The USC Trojans are the College athletics in the United States, intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of Southern California (USC), located in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California. Mountain Pacific Sports Federation
The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) is a college athletic conference with members located mostly in the western United States, although it now has members as far east as Pennsylvania. The conference participates at the NCAA Division I level, primarily in Olympic sports that are not directly sponsored by a school's home conference (such as the Pac-12 and Big West, whose members all participate in MPSF competition in at least one of its sports). History The MPSF was founded in 1992 and specifically created to provide an outlet for competition in non-revenue-producing Olympic sports. NCAA Men's Volleyball Championship
The NCAA men's volleyball tournament, officially titled the NCAA National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship, is an annual competition that determines the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) championship in American college men's volleyball. It had been the only NCAA championship in the sport from 1970 until 2012, when the NCAA launched a NCAA Division III men's volleyball tournament, Division III championship. Unlike most NCAA sports, men's volleyball uses a modified version of the National Collegiate championship format, which means NCAA Division I, Division I and NCAA Division II, Division II teams compete against each other in the same tournament. Lyon Center
The Lyon Center or Lyon Recreation Center is a student recreational facility and part-time varsity athletics facility located on the campus of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. The Lyon Center's full name is the General William Lyon University Center and is named for William Lyon, a former General in the United States Army Air Corps and United States Air Force.
