1980 European Football Championship
The 1980 UEFA European Football Championship finals tournament was held in Italy. This was the sixth UEFA European Championship, which is held every four years and endorsed by UEFA. It was the first European Championship to feature eight teams in the finals, which took place between 11 and 22 June 1980. Germany national football team, West Germany won the UEFA Euro 1980 Final, final 2–1 against Belgium national football team, Belgium for their second title. This was the last European Championship with a third place play-off. Bid process This was the first European Championship in which eight teams, rather than four, contested the finals tournament. On 17 October 1977 UEFA announced that England, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and West Germany had expressed interest in hosting this event. Miroslav Gajdůšek (born 20 September 1951) is a former Czech footballer. During his career, he played for TJ Gottwaldov, Dukla Prague and TJ Vítkovice. He played total 355 league matches and scored 77 goals. He won the Czechoslovak First League with Dukla in 1977 and 1979. Petr Němec (born 7 June 1957) is a former football midfielder and manager from Czech Republic. Career Club Němec played mostly for Baník Ostrava from his native city of Ostrava. Karol Dobiaš (born 18 December 1947) is a former Slovak football player and coach. During his career, he was a versatile player, mostly playing as defender or midfielder. Player career He was born in Handlová. His career started in Baník Handlová. In 1965 he moved to Spartak Trnava where he achieved the biggest success as a player. With Spartak he became a five time Czechoslovakian champion and won three national cups. In 1970 and 1971, he was named Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year. In 1977, he moved to Bohemians Prague. During his career he played 345 matches in the Czechoslovak league and scored 20 goals. In 1980, he was allowed to be transferred abroad and he went to KSC Lokeren in Belgium. Jan Berger (footballer, Born 1955)
Jan Berger (born 27 November 1955 in Prague) is a Czech former football midfielder and was most recently the manager of Slavoj Vyšehrad. Berger played in Czechoslovakia for Dukla Prague and Sparta Prague, winning three league titles in total. He also played internationally, winning gold with Czechoslovakia in the 1980 Olympic football competition and bronze in the UEFA European Championship held in the same year. Jaroslav Pollák
Jaroslav Pollák (11 July 1947 – 26 June 2020) was a Slovak footballer who played as a midfielder. He played for Czechoslovakia national team in 49 matches and scored one goal. He was a participant at the 1970 FIFA World Cup, where he played in a match against England, at Euro 1976, where his team won the gold medal, and also at Euro 1980. Pollák played for more than 10 years for FC VSS Košice. Death Pollák died on 26 June 2020 at the age of 72. Ladislav Vízek (born 22 January 1955 in Chlumec nad Cidlinou) is a Czech football player. He played 55 matches for Czechoslovakia and scored 13 goals. Jan Fiala (born 19 May 1956 in Slatinice) is a Czech former football player. He played 58 matches for the Czechoslovakia national football team, for which he scored one goal. He was a member of the bronze team in the 1980 UEFA European Football Championship even if he didn't play a single match. FC Baník Ostrava is a football club from the Silesian part of the city of Ostrava, Czech Republic. Founded in 1922 as ''SK Slezská Ostrava'', Baník has won numerous national and international trophies. History Formation and history to 1937 The club was founded on 8 September 1922 as ''SK Slezská Ostrava'', when 20 activists signed the establishment treaty in the ''U Dubu'' restaurant. The signatories were mostly poor coal miners from the Kamenec coal mining settlement in Ostrava. The founders were Karel Aniol, Arnošt Haberkiewicz, Petr Křižák, František Mruzek and Jaroslav Horák.
