UC Merced Golden Bobcats
The UC Merced Golden Bobcats are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of California, Merced (UCM), located in Merced, California, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), primarily competing in the California Pacific Conference (Cal Pac) since the 2011–12 academic year. The University of California, Merced (UC Merced) is a public land-grant research university and Hispanic-serving institution located in Merced, California, and is the tenth and newest of the University of California (UC) campuses. Established in 2005, UC Merced was founded to "address chronically low levels of educational attainment in the region." The ''Merced Sun-Star'' is a daily broadsheet newspaper printed in Merced, California, in the United States. It has an estimated circulation of 20,000 copies. The newspaper is published every day except for Sundays. History The ''Merced Sun-Star'' evolved from the ''San Joaquin Valley Argus,'' a weekly newspaper based in the nearby city of Snelling which began publishing the paper in 1869. The ''Argus'' merged with the ''Merced Journal'' in 1890 to become the ''Merced County Sun''. In 1925 another consolidation created the ''Merced Sun-Star.'' In 1941, the ''Sun-Star'' was acquired by Dean Lesher. In 1995, Lesher's heirs sold the ''Sun-Star'' and the ''Madera Tribune'' to US Media, later renamed Pacific-Sierra Publishing. NCAA Division II
NCAA Division II (D-II) is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. Before 1973, the NCAA's smaller schools were grouped together in the College Division. In 1973, the College Division split in two when the NCAA began using numeric designations for its competitions.
