The UCI Women's World Tour is the premier annual female elite road cycling tour. History In order to increase the coverage of Women's cycling the UCI held a summit in December 2014 between the UCI Women’s Working Group and the UCI Women's teams. Road Bicycle Racing
Road bicycle racing is the cycle sport discipline of road cycling, held primarily on paved roads. Road racing is the most popular professional form of bicycle racing, in terms of numbers of competitors, events and spectators. The two most common competition formats are mass start events, where riders start simultaneously (though sometimes with a handicap) and race to a set finish point; and time trials, where individual riders or teams race a course alone against the clock. Stage races or "tours" take multiple days, and consist of several mass-start or time-trial stages ridden consecutively. Professional racing originated in Western Europe, centred in France, Spain, Italy and the Low Countries. The Women's Tour is a women's cycle stage race held in England and Wales, as part of the UCI Women's World Tour. The race is organised by SweetSpot, the company behind the men's Tour of Britain. History Its origins trace back to 2010 when SweetSpot (the company behind the men's Tour of Britain) organised their first women's cycling race, the Horizon Fitness Grand Prix in Stoke-on-Trent. What began as a supporting event for the men's Tour Series – Britain's leading televised cycle race series – grew into a key part of the women's racing scene in Britain, thanks to television coverage on ITV4 in the UK and around the world. Liège–Bastogne–Liège Femmes
Liège–Bastogne–Liège Femmes is the women's event of Liège–Bastogne–Liège, an annual road bicycle racing event in Wallonia, Belgium, held in late April. The inaugural race, won by Olympic champion Anna van der Breggen, was run on 23 April 2017. With the reboot of the Amstel Gold Race for Women and the creation of a women's Liège–Bastogne–Liège in 2017, the women's season has the same trio of Ardennes classics as the men's. Both races are held on Sundays mid-April, in addition to La Flèche Wallonne Féminine, which has been on the women's calendar since 1998. Route The race is approximately half the distance of the men's event - around 130 to 140 kilometres - starting in Bastogne, from where it heads north to finish in Liège. La Flèche Wallonne Féminine is a professional women's bicycle road race held each year in Wallonia, Belgium, in April. It is part of the UCI Women's World Tour, cycling's season-long competition of top-tier races, in which it is the third-oldest single-day event after the Trofeo Alfredo Binda in Italy and the Emakumeen Euskal Bira in the Basque Country. The event is raced on the same day as La Flèche Wallonne for men. The race was inaugurated by Tour de France organizers ASO in 1998 and quickly became a road race classic. The Tour de Romandie Féminin is a women's Road bicycle racing, cycle stage race in Switzerland, part of the UCI Women's World Tour. The race runs through the Romandie region, or French-speaking part of Switzerland - using roads in the Jura mountains and Alps, Alpine mountain ranges. History The Tour de Romandie is a longstanding men's stage race, being first held in 1947 to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of Swiss Cycling. Amstel Gold Race (women's Race)
The Women's Amstel Gold Race is the women's event of the Amstel Gold Race, the most important annual road cycling event in the Netherlands. Held in mid-April, it is organized on the same day as the men's race at approximately half the distance. Like the men's event, the race starts in Maastricht and finishes in Berg en Terblijt, Valkenburg. It features 17 categorized climbs, including four ascents of the Cauberg. Paris–Roubaix Femmes is a one day women's bicycle race on cobbled roads (or pavé) in northern France, held annually in early April. It is part of the UCI Women's World Tour. The equivalent men's race is a cycling monument, and after the Tour of Flanders and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, is the third to stage a women's edition. History Paris–Roubaix is one of cycling's oldest races, and was first held in 1896. The announcement of the inaugural women's edition of Paris–Roubaix came as a surprise addition to the revised 2020 UCI Women's World Tour calendar. Challenge By La Vuelta
The Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta (La Madrid Challenge by La Vuelta before 2020) is an elite women's professional bicycle race held in Spain, and has been part of the UCI Women's WorldTour since 2016. Similar to La Course by Le Tour de France, the race has traditionally coincided with the final day of the Vuelta a España. The race was first held as a one-day road race in the centre of Madrid from 2015. From 2018 onwards, a time trial was held as a first stage, albeit within the Madrid region. In 2020, a third day of racing was added and the race was renamed as the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta - after sponsor Ceratizit, and as stages were held outside the borders of the Autonomous Community of Madrid. The 2021 edition increased the number of stages to 4, with the race finishing in Santiago de Compostela.
