UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Women's Team Pursuit
The UCI Track Cycling World Championships – Women's team pursuit is the world championship team pursuit for women held annually at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships. The first competition of this event was at the 2008 championships in Manchester, United Kingdom. Following its introduction as an elite event Great Britain dominated the event, winning the gold medal on six out of the first eight occasions it was held. From 2014 onwards, the United States came to prominence, winning four titles, with Australia the winner on three occasions. In 2021, Germany became the fourth different nation to win gold in the event. Until 2014, the distance raced was 3 kilometres, or twelve laps on a typical indoor velodrome track. in 2014 the event was extended to 4000m, to match the men's event, and the number of riders raised from 3 to 4. Team Pursuit
The team pursuit is a track cycling event similar to the individual pursuit, except that two teams, each of up to four riders, compete, starting on opposite sides of the velodrome. Race format Both men's and women's events are competed over a distance of 4 km, by a team of 4 riders. Prior to the start of the 2012–13 season the women's event was competed over a distance of 3 km, by a team of 3 riders. As with the individual pursuit, the objective is to cover the distance in the fastest time or to catch and overtake the other team in a final. Riders in a team follow each other closely in line, drafting to minimize total drag, and periodically the lead rider (who works the hardest) peels off the front, swings up the track banking and rejoins the team at the rear. 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships
The 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships are the World Championship for track cycling. They took place at the BGŻ Arena in Pruszków, Poland from 25 to 29 March 2009. Nineteen events were on the programme, with the women's omnium being added to the eighteen events contested at the 2008 championships. Australia topped the medal table with four gold medals, with France on second and Great Britain on third place. In the Men's events, Michael Mørkøv and Alex Rasmussen, both of Denmark, and Grégory Baugé of France took home two gold medals while Australian Cameron Meyer took home a gold and two silver medals. Jennie Reed
Jennie Reed (born April 20, 1978) is a World and U.S. champion track cyclist and Olympian (2004, 2008, 2012). Jennie began track cycling at the age of 16 in Redmond, Washington. She won National titles in the match sprint and individual pursuit at her first U.S. Track Cycling National Championship in 1994. She went on to compete in the sprint disciplines at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and the Team Pursuit in 2012. Jennie competed in 13 World Championships, 11 consecutively. She won 25 World Cup medals between the Sprint events (Sprint & Keirin) as well as the endurance events (Scratch & Team Pursuit). Danielle 'Dani' Rowe MBE (née King; born 21 November 1990) is a British former road and track cyclist. She retired from cycling in December 2018. A team pursuit gold medallist from the London Olympics in 2012, Rowe also won three consecutive world titles in the women's team pursuit, winning in 2011, (with Laura Trott and Wendy Houvenaghel), 2012 (with Trott and Joanna Rowsell), and 2013 (with Trott and Elinor Barker). The 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships was the World Championships for track cycling in 2011. The championships took place at the Omnisport Apeldoorn in Apeldoorn, Netherlands from 23 to 27 March 2011. Rushlee Buchanan (born 20 January 1988) is a New Zealand track and road cyclist. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's madison, and Women's team pursuit. Career She won bronze at the 2010 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in the Team Pursuit. She competed in the scratch, points and road races at both the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games. Josephine Tomic (born 9 June 1989) is a former Australian track cyclist. She was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Team Pursuit. Personal Nicknamed Josie, Tomic was born on 9 June 1989 in Subiaco, Western Australia. She attended North Perth Primary School, Como Primary School and Perth College. She started at Murdoch University in 2008 and was enrolled as of 2012, and was pursuing a Bachelor of Primary Education. Alison Shanks
Alison Shanks (born 13 December 1982) is a retired New Zealand professional racing cyclist, specialising in individual pursuit in track cycling and individual time trial in road bicycle racing. Prior to that she was an Otago Rebels netballer, the sport she played for more than five years before her cycling career. Cycling career Shanks began cycling in 2005, and soon enjoyed success. After more than five years competing for the Otago Rebels in the National Bank Cup netball, she competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne where she finished fourth in the pursuit.
