UCF Knights Men's Soccer
The UCF Knights men's soccer team represents the University of Central Florida in National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I. As of the next NCAA men's soccer season in 2023, the Knights compete in the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). This coincides with UCF's July 2023 move from the American Athletic Conference (The American), a league in which it has been a member since 2013, to the Big 12 Conference, which sponsors soccer only for women. They play their home games on UCF's main campus in Orlando, Florida at the UCF Soccer and Track Stadium. The Knights are currently led by head coach Scott Calabrese. After UCF announced its move to the Big 12, it was forced to find a new home for men's soccer, as the Big 12 sponsors that sport only for women. Scott Calabrese
Louis Scott Calabrese (born June 2, 1972) is an American former soccer goalkeeper who is currently the head men's soccer coach at University of Central Florida. Playing career Calabrese attended Bryant University from 1990 to 1995. During this time, he was a four-year letterman and earned All-Conference honors while playing goalkeeper for the Bulldogs. After graduating in 1995 with a B.A. in business administration, Calabrese played professionally for the Rhode Island Stingrays from 1995 to 1997 and for the South Carolina Shamrocks in 1998. Coaching career While still playing, Calabrese started his coaching career as an assistant and goalkeeper coach at Western Connecticut State University in 1995 and then at Southern Wesleyan University from 1997 to 1998. NCAA Division I Independent Schools (soccer)
NCAA Division I independent schools are four-year institutions that compete in college athletics at the NCAA Division I level, but do not belong to an established athletic conference for a particular sport. These schools may however still compete as members of an athletic conference in other sports. A school may also be fully independent, and not belong to any athletic conference for any sport at all. Orlando Sharks
The Orlando Sharks were a professional American indoor soccer team based in Orlando, Florida, United States. Founded in 2007, by Buena Vista Corporation the Chairman Mr. Sham Maharaj acquired the franchise early 2006. the first game was played in November 2007. MISL Commissioner Steve Ryan announced the Orlando during the championship game in St. Louis. The game, between the St. Louis Steamers and the Baltimore Blast, televised on ESPN2. The Miami FC is an American professional soccer team based in Miami, Florida that competes in the USL Championship, the second tier of the American soccer pyramid. The club began play in the North American Soccer League (NASL) in the 2016 season. Following the demise of the NASL, the club participated in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) before moving to the USL Championship for the 2020 season. The Columbus Crew, formerly known as Columbus Crew SC, is an American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. Ryan McIntosh (soccer)
Ryan McIntosh (born March 19, 1983 in Hollywood, Florida) is a former American soccer goalkeeper. Early life and education McIntosh grew up in South Florida playing on travel teams becoming one of the top youth goalkeepers in the State of Florida by the time he graduated from high school. He was selected to the Florida State ODP Team prior to his senior year at St. Thomas Aquinas High School. During his senior year, he posted .62 GAA and 17 shutouts, which helped lead his team to the Florida State Semi-Finals. He went on to play college soccer for the University of Central Florida from 2002 to 2005. As a redshirt freshman, he earned the starting goalkeeper position and was voted to be a captain. Sean Johnson (soccer)
Sean Everet Johnson (born May 31, 1989) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club Toronto FC and the United States national team. Career College and amateur Johnson grew up in Lilburn, Georgia where he attended Brookwood High School. For a brief period he attended school in California where he played for his high school in Los Angeles County. He would graduate from there in 2005. Johnson moved to Florida to play college soccer at the University of Central Florida, where he earned Member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and was named Team MVP in 2008. Eric Vasquez
Eric Vasquez (born November 18, 1982 in Miami, Florida) is an American soccer player, who last played as a midfielder for Miami FC. Vasquez played college soccer at the University of Central Florida from 2001 to 2003. He was twice named to the All Atlantic Sun First Team and in 2003 a Second Team All American. He also played with the PDL League's Central Florida Kraze. He was drafted in the second round, 20th overall, by the Columbus Crew in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. Following the 2006 season, Vasquez was waived by the Crew. 2007 Saw Vasquez join the USL-1 Miami FC. There, he was the leading scorer for the team. Conference USA
Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech. NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship
The NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament, sometimes known as the College Cup, is an American intercollegiate soccer tournament conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and determines the Division I men's national champion. The tournament has been formally held since 1959, when it was an eight-team tournament. Since then, the tournament has expanded to 48 teams, in which every Division I conference tournament champion is allocated a berth. Among the most successful programs, Saint Louis won 10 titles during dynasty years between 1959 and 1973.
