UAB Blazers Men's Soccer
The UAB Blazers men's soccer team is an intercollegiate varsity sports program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As of the upcoming 2022 season, the college soccer program competes in the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference (The American). History UAB began a men's soccer program back in 1979. Throughout its history, UAB has enjoyed great success in the men's soccer program. The men's team has been in the NCAA Tournament a total of 7 times including 2 Sweet Sixteen appearances and 1 Elite Eight appearance in 1999. The men's team has been ranked nationally numerous times throughout its history, including top 25 rankings in 16 of the last 18 seasons. One of UAB's biggest wins in the men's team history came when UAB upset the #1-ranked UCLA Bruins in 1997 by a score of 2–0. PNC Field (Birmingham, Alabama)
PNC Field (formerly BBVA Field) is a soccer-specific stadium located in Birmingham, Alabama, United States on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) that has served as the home field for both the UAB Blazers men's and women's soccer teams since its opening in October 2015 as the replacement for West Campus Field. Development of the stadium was facilitated after BBVA USA made a $1.5 million donation to the university for its construction in November 2014. In February 2018, the Board of Trustees approved a $7.3 million expansion of the facility from 2,500 to 5,000 seats. The expansion was financed in part by the Birmingham Legion FC, which agreed to an eight-year lease to play at the stadium starting in 2019 for $350,000 annually. Anthony "Tony" McManus (born September 22, 1980, in Erie, Pennsylvania) is a former American soccer player who is currently an assistant coach for the Memphis Tigers. Career College and Amateur McManus played college soccer for the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2000 to 2003, where he was recognized as one of the best defenders in Conference USA (C-USA). McManus was selected to the C-USA Team of the week three times, Soccer America Magazine Team of The Week twice, and College Soccer News Team of the Week once. He was also a C-USA third team All Conference his junior year. Sandy Gbandi (born July 12, 1983 in Harbel) is a Liberian former footballer. Career Early life and college Born near the Firestone rubber plantation, Gbandi and his family fled from his native Liberia to Houston, Texas following the outbreak of the First Liberian Civil War in 1989, when he was just six years old. Gbandi went on to attend Jersey Village High School, played club football for the Houston Dynamos and the Houston Texans as a youth, and played four years of college soccer at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Gbandi played in 56 games for UAB, scoring 10 goals and adding 14 assists. Alexander Harris Clay (born 22 April 1992) is an American professional soccer player who last played as a midfielder for the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2 in the National Premier Soccer League. Career Youth and college Alex Clay played college soccer for UAB Blazers from 2011 to 2014 after transferring from the University of Kentucky. He also attended Randolph High School of Alabama. While with the Blazers he played in 51 matches scoring 9 goals and recording 10 assists. Michal Mravec
Michal Mravec (born 10 June 1987 in Žilina) is a professional Slovak football midfielder who plays for SK Gbeľany. Career Born in Žilina. He started his career by playing in the youth teams of MŠK Žilina, where he won numerous tournaments including competitions in the Netherlands, Italy and all over Europe. Carl Matthew Woszczynski (born April 18, 1988) is a retired American soccer player. Playing career Woszczynski attended Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana, where he was a four-year varsity starting goalkeeper. He recorded 42 career shutouts in 80 varsity starts. During his time there, he was a four-time All-Conference Indiana selection and three-time All State selection, as well as The Republic’s Area Player of the Year in 2006.
