UAAP Season 73 Men's Basketball Tournament
The UAAP Season 73 men's basketball tournament is the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP)'s men's basketball tournament for the 2010–11 season. The Ateneo Blue Eagles won against the FEU Tamaraws in the finals, winning in two games. Ateneo blew out FEU in the first game, and hanged on in the second game to clinch their third consecutive title. Ryan Buenafe, who scored a crucial three-point shot late in Game 2, was named Finals MVP. In the semifinals, FEU defeated the De La Salle Green Archers in overtime on their semifinal match-up, while Ateneo blew out the Adamson Falcons in the other semifinal. The UP Fighting Maroons finished the season with no victories for the second time in four years; their coach Aboy Castro went on leave after incurring their second consecutive loss, and new coach Boyet Fernandez led the team to twelve more defeats to end the season with a 0–14 record. UP Fighting Maroons
The UP Fighting Maroons are the collegiate varsity teams of the University of the Philippines, primarily off University of the Philippines Diliman, Diliman, which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country. The Fighting Maroons moniker, though, is more commonly used to refer to the men's basketball team (see #Team monikers, Team monikers below). Pido Jarencio
Alfredo Lorenzo Mendoza Jarencio (born September 5, 1964) is a Filipino basketball coach and former professional basketball player who is the head coach for the NorthPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He was the head coach of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers Senior men's collegiate basketball team of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines from 2006 to 2013. Known as "the Fireman" when he was actively playing in the PBA, he distinguished himself as one of the league's best three-point shooters, especially in clutch situations. Manolito "Eric" Gonzales Jr. (born September 3, 1972) is a Filipino professional basketball coach, currently with the Quezon Huskers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the Pilipinas Super League (PSL). Coaching career Gonzales is a former University of Santo Tomas track and field star from 1992 to 1994. He started his coaching career by serving as an assistant for Binky Favis in 1995 with the Tiger Cubs. Glenn Capacio (born May 15, 1964, in Palo, Leyte) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the former head coach of PBA team GlobalPort Batang Pier and was also the former head coach of the FEU Tamaraws from 2007 to 2010. Ferdinand "Dindo" Pumaren, is a retired Filipino professional basketball player and former collegiate coach. In his professional playing career, he was nicknamed "The Bullet" due to his great passing and stealing. Early career Pumaren suited up for San Beda in high school, teaming up with fellow future pros Magsanoc, Altamirano, Paras, Gerry Esplana and Macky de Joya in a formidable squad that won the NCAA and the national secondary crowns in the early 80s.
